Cumberland stripers

The umbrella rig has really been hot on cumberland. The amazing thing about it is the best bite is in the middle of the DAY !!. But SSKY the rig you are talknig about is made by Cumberland Pro Lures.(that is the old gambler bait company, so if anyone is looking for them).They seem to work best if used with the striper spinner, also made by cumberland pro lures. DEADLY !!!!

Are they free lining these umbrella rigs or are they using something to get them down to 30' of so (i.e. downriggers, etc). It sounds like an exiting way to fish especially if you get more than one hookup. Does anybody know where you can buy the Gambler rigs. I went to the Cumberland Pro web site, but they had no listing for them.

You pull the umbrella 75 to 90 feet behind the boat. Trolling speeds of 1.8-2.6 with 9 1oz striper spinners with grub trailers on each umbrella. Use 25 to 30 lb test line on your reel. This technique is deadly. There is a guide service that has totally gone to using the striper spinners year round. (They really do not want the general public to know) They have tested the use of umbrella rigs with many different baits and found that the striper spinner is the best. There are many stores in the Lake Cumberland area that carry the umbrella rigs, but a select few carry the striper spinner.

I am not sure what kind of rod should be used for umbrella rigs. I have a couple of 9' MH Dipsy Diver Rods with 25 lb big game and line counters. Do you think that these would be strong enough? They can handle a #1 Luhr Jensen diver with no problem. I can't imagine that the umbrella would pull much more than a #1 dipsy.

Sounds like that tackle will work fine. Most use a 7' MH Ugly.
