    Chopping weeds?

Twice this year in limited time on Cedar Creek, I've seen people go into the shallower bays with boats, trim the motor up and run around in the shallow water. I believe they are using the motor like a week trimmer and basically chewing up the weeds. What kind of morons do this sort of thing and don't they know they could be harming the lake? If I'd been in a boat instead of a kayak, I'd have gone over and said something.

    'Gurl....

I think this is the first time I've ever seen you call someone a name!!! *smile*

Perhaps they are trying to spread the week through out the entire lake.

Once cut free, it can now float and take root elsewhere...

I agree, not smart... just think if there were a large stump in those weeds. Lots of lower unit and prop damage.

I don't like to directly call people names. In this case, it's generic since I do not know who it is.

Last night, I paddled though a large area - 100 yards or more - of 3-5 inch weed bits floating on the surface. I had heard the boat motor revved up really high around the point in an area I knew to be shallow.

The other time, I saw them churning around in the shallow water - and that time was essentially during the bass spawn.

In addition I picked up an armload of trash from my access point and threw it in the trash can - 50 FEET AWAY.

People are really beginning to frustrate me.

Yikes! Thats kinda strong. Of course i wasn't there but it has happened to most boaters. You might get in shallow because of wind or your hung up and would rather try and get that bait back than leave it. Most of the weeds will grow back anyway. Were they driving in circles or just trying to get out of a bad situation?

The one that I witnessed with my eyes was driving around back and forth and in circles. They were clearly not stuck. The were basically working up the shoreline going in close and back and forth over the area and then moving on to the next.

If it was during the spawn they were probably looking for beds. (Just a guess). Most people can see the beds from a distance in shallow water and with the proper sunglasses in addition to the elevated position of a boat. Of course it could be as simple as boaters making a mistake.

Wrong again. They were running the big motor in 3 feet of water with it tilted up slightly but still in the water. They were gunning it at fairly high RPMs and circling back and forth through the weeds throwing a good spray several feet into the air.

Sounds to me like they might have been drinking something they shouldn't have. For the life of me I can't imagine what they would have been doing. But like said earlier I doubt they did any major damage to the weeds. Like your lawn or hedge they will grow back. Isn't it nice to see morons in action!

I'm with fishgurl about the trash. 'Took the family over one Sunday just to check out the progress of the new beach and took a short walk around the lake shore. There was trash everwhere including where people had s_ _ _ just by the path. I walked less than a 1/2 mile there and back and a dumpster probably wouldn't hold the trash I saw.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can be so sloppy and care so little. Trash is more than an eyesore - it can cause other issues depending on the nature of what is left behind. And it takes so little effort to simply dispose of what we use. It is doubly bad when trash containers are in plain sight of the trash left behind. People can be so thoughtless at times.
