Short fish tourney .... it's possible

    >HOW CAN THEY HAVE A SHORTER
    >SIZE LIMIT FOR THE TOURNAMENTS???????

EASY .... catch, measure, release --- it's called a "paper size limit", he/they who catch the most "total" inches, wins. It's a "gentlemans agreement" to be honest in your measurements.
There would HAVE to be rules of this nature used, to even think of having a tourney on this lake.

Let's ask the "busters" & "outfitters" about the RULES they intend to use in their OPEN tourney -- how's that gonna work ? Just how many 20+ inch fish do we think are in this lake, already ??

I don't think this lake was designed for tournament use, given the size of it - the "trophy" nature of it - and the age of it. And if I remember correctly ... the "first" tournament held there, there were no "legal" fish caught - therefore, no fish "weighed in". That should have been a red flag !!

I'm not anti-tournament ... but the lake rules (size/creel limit) dictate that it be given time to produce more than a handful of "legal" fish. I'm more concerned about the "trashing" of the lake - the "meathogs" REMOVING short fish - and the introduction of Shad.

And what's going to happen when the lake DOES start producing numbers of 20+ inch fish ?? Instinct tells me the KDFWR is going to raise the length limit. Then we're back to square one.

It'll be interesting to watch how all this plays out. .... cp

Be careful what you post on the worldwide net. Always clarify, if you reread your post you'll see why we questioned it.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-13-06 AT 05:00PM (EST)[p]I doesn't bother me that it was questioned or that the warden fellows were mentioned but maybe you should have waited a while before jumping to conclusions... personally I think there should be alot more patrol on Cedar, I haven't seen (heard stories) any short bass kept but I have seen short crappie, bullgills and cats taken and dropped in bucket before. Cedar is my only experience crappie fishing and it nothing to pull up on a spot and catch 50+ crappie but few if any will be 9", it's a blast but also pisses me off when you see people on the bank catching some of the same fish and putting them on a stringer.

    Well I guess I can't argue that.

Now if they could only get rid of the shad you'd have those slab crappie...but that's another story....LOL!!! Looks what's having to be done to Lake Corrinth,

yeah the shad boggled my mind too, but then again hearing that there was going to be a 150HP limit on the lake then finally getting there just to have some jack-hole run 30yds by you with a 225...LOL, Nothing surprises me now, Cedar is a prime example of a Great Idea gone bad. The almighty dollar speaks loudly.

And thats any different than someone doing the same with a 150HP LOL. But what the heck. Most 18 footers with a 150 are just as fast as my 20 footer with a 225. My old boat had a 150 and was only 5mph slower than my new boat. I guess the bottom line is that some folks just need to show a little courtesy when passing close to someone else no matter what size engine you have. I've been there a couple of times last summer in the middle of the week and there was hardly anyone there. I have not been back since I heard the rumor that a 150 limit was going to be enforced. Like I said there is no difference. Any 18 footer with a 150 can break 60.

I've been to Cedar 3-4 times....haven't been back in quite awhile. I'd have to somewhat agree with the Circus thing.

RE: Short fish tourney .... it's possible

I fished it a few times in late spring and early summer, came back a few more times in the fall, went on holidays weekdays and weekends and never really had a problem with boat traffic, havent heard much on anyone keeping small bass but have seen a lot of people keeping short crappie. Personaly I have never fished one of the paper tournies on this lake but as long as it is draw for partners I dont see anything very bad about them. I think a 150 hp is a little to strict, and I've got a 150. I mainly love the lake cuz I can take anyone there and catch a 4lb plus fish almost every time. But thats just my two cents.
