RE: Am I missing something Jim?

Sorry Peter, we just got our video camera a little while ago, and I've not learned to use it. I did buy additional software for the laptop to manage the video. If the fishin.com get together comes together, and I can make it, I'll try to bring the camera and take some video there. I am sorry I don't have anything else.

I could just go out and shoot some stuff of the boat, my tackle, and just how poorly organized my boat is and we could use it as an example of how "NOT" to keep your boat organized!!! LMAO

If you can't get any video, send me an email at [email protected], and we can discuss.

    RE: Services Expansion Fishin.com

I don't know...I guess it don't matter to me one way or another. I like how this board is as it exists today. I like it much better than the Bill Dance Outdoors site because I think less BS makes it to Fishin.com than it does at the Bill Dance website...Maybe it's because everyone on the board is here to discuss the local region, where as on Bill Dance you hear about fishin from all over the United States...

The video thing you discussed could be sort of cool even though I don't know if I'd buy into or not...I guess what you guys would do is set up some sort of credit card charge thing...say like 10.00 to 20.00 bucks per year which would have to be non-reoccuring...in other words it would be a one time charge. Once it expired you guys would notify members by email and let them know their membership was about to be terminated...

All in all, I say do what you please, but in doing so just don't change the basics of what we have here right now...in other words, keep the message boards free just like they are now...

    RE: Services Expansion Fishin.com

    Jim,
I like the guide reports, but they are not often updated and I believe that fisherman on this site would be just as good in some cases. I would recommend that you keep the guide reports, but also have a separate section outside of the discussion board where you could go and post a report for the recent body of water you fished. It would make it a lot easier to find, get too and I believe would enhance value to the site. Just a thought. Sometimes I like reading the boards, but others I want to get a report of conditions and trends at a specific river or lake without scrolling through the discussion boards. Again, just my 2 cents worth. Regardless I enjoy the board and guide reports that are posted.

    Jim,

I enjoyed the radio show and would be interested in the option of linking to such sites in the future on the board. There is a wide variety of interest for those who acess this site and the more "bells and whistles" you could offer would, in my opinion, expand the knowledge of the sport.
I don't post often because I would rather listen than talk, but I have learned SO much from this site and visit it often.
I appreciate the fact that you included us in your market research and allowing us to voice our opinion of fishin.com.
Concerning Podcasts, I think it would be a great teaching tool to see a short video clip of someone from this site demonstrating the FNF on Dale or Cumberland or Dave Stewart demonstrating the Carolina rig on Kentucky! The possibilities are endless!

Some of us are visual learners!

    Hey Jim,!

    Dude, I need work too!!!!!!!

Hey, I know the logical process, but not the technical stuff about the video streaming. I would be happy to help out, and try to contact some folks to get some tips on how to do it. I can't afford to take classes to get the teaching, but I can and will spend my time to help out.

My wife and I did get a digital video camera, and while I still am not sure how to use it, we do have the software for our computer to process the videos. If I can help in filming, I will. Also, if I can make the get together, perhaps I can get some footage at the get together and we can post it here as well.

    RE: YES!

I love the board the way that it is. But, if the majority of the folks want something different than that is ok by me. What radio show are you all talking about. Thanks and take care. Ryan.

    Ryan....

The way something like this would work would be to have the links on a link page, or the front page. You would not really notice a change in the web design, unless Jim and Peter just wanted to make the change.

To view a video, you would click on a link that would begin the download of the video, and launch whatever media software you have designated as your default viewing software.

    I hope this helps some.

    Hey Jim,

You asked for it so here is my 2 cents. I DO NOT want to pay for some BS video to play while I am surfing the discussion board. I am not for sure how everyone else feels however I come to fishin.com to see what the discussions are about and to find answers or input to questions I personally have ( i.e. the jack plate issue). I do not know what the monetary direction that you and Peter have decided to go in with fishin.com but if it was to come down to everytime I log onto fishin.com I am getting pop ups wanting mne to purchase something or some video just automatically starting I will start finding other ways to get my information. Please do not take this wrong as I love coming to this site just the way it is. Thanks and thats my 2 cents worth.

I don't know how to make a pop-up. I just know how to get rid of them.

Marty, there would be no popups, there would be no videos on the board.. this would be an OPTIONAL service. You could post YOUR videos of your fishing trips and we would tag them with ads from tackle dealers etc.. They pay you do not..
We could also produce video's for you to use on the water for things like Float and Fly, Various knots etc.. that you could view while on the water to learn a new technique or way to fish a bait.
OR we could provide podcasts of Audio or Video and require ONLY THOSE ITEMS to have a Membership to download.
We are not changing the board, but we do need to create revenue streams. Failure to do so would be stupid as far as business is concerned.
We are trying to find things that you guys might be interested in, like the radio show I have posted the link to.
