Services Expansion Fishin.com

LAST EDITED ON Jan-14-06 AT 09:33AM (EST) by fishbum (admin)[p]http://www.reeltimeanglers.com/artman/pub/article_744.php

Ok, I want an opinion from the fishermen. What do you guys think of this radio show. I am considering linking to it from Fishin.com.. Listen to this show and if you get a chance to others and let me know what you think. Would this benefit the anglers on this site to have this resource.. AND if we could produce such shows online would you listen in?The Radio show above can be brought up and listened to while you surf. Matter of fact I am listening to it as I post this.
PLEASE Give me some feedback..

ALSO.. We are considering some other media. Would you be interested in Podcasts of Video from other anglers / Fishing Trips/ Tournaments / and other fishing related videos that might be produced by users of the site?
How many of you know what a Podcast is?
How many of you HAVE a Pod? (Hell what is one.. LOL, I have heard of Podcasting, but thought it was a new fishing reel till recently)

ALSO would you pay for any of these services, or object to ads that might be imbedded to pay for them. (Obviously if we offer something it will need to generate revenue.)

On another note... I want to provide as much information as the site can. Is there anything you feel the site needs to add.. OTHER than Kentucky and Tennessee Fishing reports. I am aware of the dearth of reports.. but please understand smaller lakes like Nolin, Rough, T-ville are heavily pressured but have no fishing guides. WE do accept other reports but getting regular reports on smaller lakes is tough, and Kentucky has fewer guides who are net savvy than Florida and Texas. No offense to the guides meant.

I have always thought a fishing partner forum would be nice. I spent last year sidelined after being forced to sell my boat the prior year. Then, I find out late in the season, that there were several boaters looking for partners in several clubs around the state. Ugh.

Anything to take the edge off of cabin fever would be geat! Some instructional videos of techniques that have been discussed on the board would be sweet.

My first thought would be to either fix this board or upgrade it. Crashes waaay too often. There are also a number of other discussion board software out there that are better than the current software.

Video and audio, I probably would not use it much, if at all. Like Danny, I have a 28.8 modem. Too slow to run that stuff.

THANK YOU Andrew....

Misery loves company. I thought I was the only person left in America that still has such slow access.

RE: THANK YOU Andrew....

I just got DSL a year ago and that was only because my customers basically required that I have it. Still don't have cable TV at home or work. Am I the last person not tohave cable.

No cable here, but....

Peter,

Cable out here is practically non-existant. The little that is offered is so outlandishly priced it is rediculous. I did have a C-Band satellite until about 2 years ago, now I have dishnetwork. It's pretty nice, I have to admit. I would trade it for cable internet access. I had that in the office I kept in town while I was working, man, talk about fast. 4meg download, 2.5 upload. DSL has nothing compared to that. However, if you want to use a wireless connection/modem/router etc... then DSL is fine. From what I understand the wireless routers slow down the speed to the same as that of DSL. That's what the tech people at work told me anyway.

BTW, if not for the insomnia that has found its way into my life, I would get rid of the satellite. I use the movie channels in the middle of the night when I can't sleep.

RE: Services Expansion Fishin.com

I am trying to bring up the radio broadcast but it is taking a long time. I am wondering if our web filter here is somehow blocking it. With that I don't have much of an opinion on the audio part yet.

As far as adding video content to this site I think there is great potential. With more and more people getting broadband adding video content will only make for a richer experience on the site. I don't think many people would mind embedded advertising in the video clips. I frequent some of the news sites with video this way and it is a little annoying to have the commercial then the content but it keeps the video service free which is important to most. For the most part I think that is key to most internet consumers -- free content that satisfies. I could see where you could post "how to" videos sponsored by advertisers in this fashion. Heck you could even go "Bill Dance" and if the how to was lure or equipment specific the manufacturer or distributor may be quite inclined to foot the bill.

The podcast idea seems a little bit of a stretch to me. I am a technology person and there is a current technology trend to get information pushed out mobile to be picked up on your cell phone or ipod where-ever you are, when ever you want. But does that fit the fishing crowd that frequents this site (today any way)? I am personaly not into the mobile push technology and with price tags associated with the services I having a feeling it will have a hard time catching on in a big way. That said I would love to have a podcast of a fresh NWS radar loop available when I am on the lake but if I were so inclined I could probably do this via an internet connected cell phone.

As far as other ideas to expand the site would it be feasible to have an area where people could upload and link their own pictures or videos to share with others on the board? The pictures section now is kind of limited and as fishermen we all love to share our catch. I notice that most people provide links within messages to other sites hosting their pictures and I thought it would be interesting if fishin.com could host them.

I commend you guys for thinking ahead and asking our input. Keep up the good work. You have a good thing going in this site.

Am I missing something Jim?

Jim,

It seems a lot of the responses refer to having to buy the new services you are proposing. The way I read it, you simply asked if anyone would object to you having embedded advertisements to defer the cost, and possibly create a positive revenue stream.

So, am I reading this wrong? Are you asking if we will be willing to pay for the services? I know my reading comprehension can be a little off sometimes.

So, a simple yes or no question, will we users be asked to pay a fee of any kind?

Thanks Jim,

Danny

NO FEE...
OR we could do a membership thing but that is sort of NOT one of our options we are looking at..
NO we are looking at Fee Free basically with advertisers paying on a per download basis.. say .25 cents or something like that.

No fee.

The question is simply. Would anybody have an interest in watching fishing related videos-- if they so choose to do so-- if they were available on fishin.com at no cost.

Another queston I have is.
Does anybody have any home made fishing videos?
Does anybody know of anybody or have you seen any body taking videos on the lake. Are there any out there.
