    Trolling motor repair?? SLW750?

    Hey Guys,

I have a friend here in Muhlenberg county that has an older Ranger with what I presume to be the original trolling motor. He says it still works, but the top arrow doesn't turn to indicate the direction. He is concerned that other things may be about to go wrong too.

He asked me to post a question as to whether anyone knew of somebody that rebuilds trolling motors. I know that SLW used to do this kind of work, and retired to Louisville. I put his name in the subject in case he still visits the site and knows of someone who could help.

If you could just post contact information, or email me at [email protected], I will make sure he gets the information.

    Thanks for your help.

hi danny, nice to hear from you! tell your friend that the arrow is usually a quick fix, pop a new one on. its either the gear it is attached to or the inside of the unit has worn out. I would never reccomend rebuilding any TM. usually you can replace them with a warranty backed unit just as cheaply. built in obsolesence you know!! Wear em' out and replace them! 'i still subscribe to simpler is better, less to go wrong! don't have a clue who is working on them now, sorry. hope you have a great 2006, take care.

FANTASTIC to see you are still around!!

How are you doing? I hope you are enjoying the 'ville.

The best I can tell, my buddy would whether spend $150 repairing an old one than spending $300 for one with a warranty. Kind of like my dad used to be, only he thought he had to do the repairs himself. He would spend $600 worth of time, $450 worth of parts, just to repair something he could have bought a new one for $100!!! God Bless him, but I did not inherit that gene....LOL
