    crappie fishing Cen. Kentucky

Can anyone help a novice. I just bought a 14 foot v hull with a 9.9.It has a depth finder with graph. I'm looking for places in the central Kentucky area that is good for crappie fishing. I really don't want to go to big lakes and get ran over. What techniquesand baits are the best. I know that covers alot of info. Any help can help. I've got a 10 year old that loves to fish. Thanks Doug

Taylorsville around timber creek and across from Chowning boat ramp has some VERY NICE Crappie. Last year we were pulling 12" - 17" crappie. They are nice slabs.

    Bast of luck

I would fish Wilgreen or Beaver lake. I caught a 1lb 9oz crappie during a bas tourney at Wilgreen and I used to burn crappie up at Beaver as a kid.

You've got some pretty decent options in Central Kentucky without having to go to the big water....

I'd definitely try out Wilgreen Lake in Richmond. The ramp is fine, and it has a courtesy dock and nice new marina with tackle shop and snacks. For kids, it would be great. There are some good shellcracker over there and crappie can be found. I was bass fishing over there a few months ago and saw a fella who had done really well with the crappie. It has its fare share of traffic, but it's idle speed only and you won't get run over.

Willisburg Lake (just South of the Bluegrass Parkway on 555) is small and though there aren't any motor restrictions that I know of, you'd be fine. I'm not sure what the crappie population is down there (if any), but I know that the lake is low right now. Used to do some catfishing there when I was a kid.

Not for crappie, but Corinth Lake (Corinth is North of Georgetown on I-75) has some great redear and warmouth...

Lake Linville, in Mt.Vernon right off I-75 is another option.

Ky River used to have numbers and quality crappie. However my last 3 or 4 yrs there hasnt produced much. Ya need minnows though unless ya can catch em feeding on the shad up around the dam in eddys. then a 1/8 oz white maribou crappie jig on 4 lb test seems to work well. Most of my crappie fishin at High Bridge pool both above and below lock 7. Fished Beaver some last year and had a few good mess's of decent crappie had to do alot of culling to get a good mess though. Lots and lots of lil crappie. Bigger the minnow bigger the fish. Got a 7.2 lb LM doin that to.

Speaking of Beaver........after the place or sold or the lease changed hands or whatever...did the tournaments continue? How was the fishing overall last year?I used to fish the tournaments years ago and although my partner kinda retired , I've always loved hearing about the results, reports, etc .I may go back down there someday and get in another one, provided tournaments are still going on .
