float n fly

i know that float n fly is mostly targets smallies, but i have read some things saying that it would work on largemouths as well. never anything actually saying what structure or how deep. never any details. my question is has anyone tried it on largemouth or are there any articals known about it? any help would be greatly appreciated. some of us don't have the pleasure of being able to take off for dale or ky/barkley as much as we would like too. thanks for any info.

I usually don't target one species of bass, if they are all present in the particular lake I'm fishing, I really don't care which I catch. I've caught some really nice fish on the FNF, as have my fishing partners, largemouth,smallmouth, and spotted bass. I have caught two or more different species in one area. I will say that I USUALLY expect smallies towards the mouth of the creeks and the main lake areas. Largemouth I expect to catch further back in the creeks and in coves off of the main lake. The Spots will be anywhere... The FNF IS NOT JUST A SMALLMOUTH BAIT...I think that most of the FNF guys would agree with me on that.

Smallies relate less to cover and trees in the winter than largemouth. Around trees and brush you are more likely to catch spots or LM. Trout will hit it too. I have caught them at Dale while reeling in the fly.

I agree with that for the most part. However, as with most anything else, there are exceptions. I've caught 4 pound largemouth on the main lake, on a bluff, relating to nothing more than a small cut in the bank. My biggest FNF largemouth did come a laydown but my biggest Spot was just on a bare deep drop point. I also caught a smallie the other day around wood.
So like with any other lure I fish, just fish as much structure (points,bluffs,coves,drops,wood,bank changes,etc...) as you can.

fishing the same depths as you would for smallies (8-15 ft as i read it)? i fish nolin and barren more than anything so finding deep structure and cover isnt really problem. i've only tried float n fly once and caught a buttload in a really short time so i think i just happened into a time and place where they were feeding pretty heavy and they were really shallow. sorry for all the questions just trying to learn something new.
