Speed Clips

I haven't used them but I bought a pack today. Plan to use them for CB's and other hard baits (except topwater). I didn't see any "pound test" they just had one version, so I am wondering how strong they are. Was hoping someone has used them and knows their strength. They seem to be plenty strong enough considering I will be using them strictly for bass od Ky and Barkley (not for 10 plus lbers like in Florida and such :( ) But you never know. I am going to attach it to a hook and give a pull until the line breaks or the clip opens. Using an improved clinch knot, if the 12 lb P-line breaks first, they are plenty strong. Thanks.

I have been using Speed Clips for the past 2 years, don't know the test rating, but I have boated a few 4 punders, and hung up some CB's, the line (10) test broke before the clip. I like them because you can change CB's much faster, but keep an eye on your line, you still need to retie if you are cranken the trash.

Also, you need to remove the slpit ring from your CB, if not, it will change the action, somtimes to the bad.

Have not used the speed clips, but have used duo locks and cross locks. Larger size for striper plugs, smaller for bass plugs. Just remove the split ring on cranks before using them. I like them cause you can change out plugs pretty quick and they'll give a little more action to a crank. No problem using them on topwater stuff either.

You two guys have given me the best advice I have heard in a while. See, I would not have removed the o-rings, seems like a small detail but that is what makes ALL the difference in bass fishing, not the big idea, but the small idea. Thanks a lot. If the 0-rings were to be removed from let's say CB's, it would improve the action, from the knowledge you guys gave me, also, would it be better to tie directly to the molded line tie, instead of using 0-ring when not using quicklocks? would it give the CB a tighter, faster wobble, or would it mess up the action? If no one knows, maybe we should find out. Maybe the rings let the CB work in a way to catch more bass, but why are CB's and rogues coming out with a "tighter" wobble action? This could be a new improvement without buying other lures.
I could also be very wrong but I have to try this now.

If you don't have something in your connection with a loop in it then you will interfere w/the cb's action. Thats why the old floating rapalas that didn't have a ring (had a small fixed line tie) had instructions inside on how to tie a "rapala knot". It gives you the play to allow the cb to wobble freely. It has to be able to pivot and if you have your knot cinched down directly on the front of the cb it won't work right. By all means get rid of 'em w/the speed clips but I wouldn't try tying line directly to the bait unless I tied a knot w/ a loop in the end to allow free action/wobble. JMO don't let me stop ya from experimenting.

would direct tying negatively affect CB's with large bills? This is something I have never tried so I believe you to be right, but curiosity makes me ask the question, maybe it would tighten up those large billed baits, but would be evident to be useless to tighten up a small bill.

the more I think about it the more it seems to be a very bad thing to do, the cinch knot is very tight and the bait would have to have a large wobble area, but hey if it made the bait stray sideways, it might get a bass' attention, they would say: "Ha, that dumbass tied to the bait with no ring, go tell bob the smallmouth to eat that thing, he'll eat anything. lol, A side note: an injured minnow jerks and swims sort of on its side doesn't it?, If I'm right, I know where my suspend dots are going on my next rogueing trip.

Only one way to find out for sure. Give it a shot and let me know. Who knows might be good for say maybe a super shad rap while striper fishing.

have used them for a few years now and love them on cbs and spinnerbaits. never broke one off or anything like that. usually fish 10 lb. vanish flouro with cbs.

Sounds good as long as the weights don't interfere w/ the diving depth. If the bait runs true when your reeling and jerking it down it just might be the next big craze. Might be something good to try w/shallow runners and topwaters too. Sorry guys, I know this wasn't the original topic. I seem to always find a way to go off on some wild tangent. Especially when BB is in on it. HE always has something that makes me scratch my head and say "HMMM. Just might work."
