Boat value, what would you pay?

LAST EDITED ON Jan-27-06 AT 07:39PM (EST)[p]I've had someone inquire about purchasing my boat. I just checked the value on NADA Guides, and my value that came back is a Low Retail of $27,360 and an Average retail of $32,910.

Now my boat is a 2002 Triton TR21, with dual console, tackle organizer, GPS, and a 225 Opit-max.

Now the price was for a 250 hp, and I figure that would deduct $1,000 due to the horsepower, but then I figure the default motor is probably the carburated motor, as opposed to the Opti-max, so I figure I should add the $1,000 back in.

My boat is in great shape, less than 100 hours on the motor. I had the 100 hour service done last year at about 76 or so hours. During that service, I had all new plugs put in, which was around $16 per plug, 6 plugs, that's $96, right? I do have a scratch or two, but would call the boat in excellent shape. No tears in the upholstery at all. 74# Maximum MinnKota TM. This was not listed as an option in the NADA estimate.

So, would you think $33,500 a fair price?

What would you pay for such a boat?

I'm not crazy about selling, but not working, I figure before long I may need the money... long being a few months.

Thanks for your thoughts and help.

Danny

man i dont mean no disrespect, but are you out of your mind? you are sitting on a 3-4 year old, damm nice boat, that is payed for you say,i have to ask again, are you out of your mind? if i were in your shoes id go flip burgers,or sell blood plasma before selling my boat. then again if you can pay a 30.000$ + boat off in 3 years, you must know what your doing. just my thoughts. the hunter

The NADA is going to be quoted with a 225 0r 250 Opti. It should not use a carb in NADA, but it will state the horsepower as you stated.

Selling price should be in the $26,000-$31,000. It's hard to get the value out of the GPS on used boats, most people and banks only consider whats on the boat as a gimmi if it's not standard.

But the price can vary depending on the area you live in. Up here in Northern Kentucky a 2-3 year old TR 20 with a 225 will go for $30,000 most of the time. A 4 year old TR 21 should be similar. 1 negative could be if you are near a dealer or dealers that sell their new boats lower than they should, then you could expect to be 5-10% lower than that.

Hope that helps,
Matt

Thanks a lot Matt. I appreciate the information.

I really am going to try to keep the boat if I can. It is paid for, and that is a very, very big part of the equation.

Thanks again Matt.

I'm very sorry for your situation. Sounds like you have your dream boat there (at least it sounds like MY dream boat. LOL). In all honesty, for a 3 year old bass boat, no matter how nice it is, I just couldn't see myself paying $33k. Maybe somebody will pay that, but it wouldn't be me. Which brings me to my next question: Is the boat paid for? If not, then I'd probably sell it ASAP like you're talking about. If you HAVE paid for it, then I'd look real hard at my financials right now and see if you really need that money right away. Whatever you do, I wish you the best of luck.

If you sell your boat and are left high and dry, just know that you're welcome in my boat any time. It's only a 17' Nitro, but it gets me where I'm going. Any friend of Dave's is a friend of mine (Hey Dave! Is that good enough for a discount on my next trip with you? LOL). I primarily fish KY Lake pre and post spawn. Barkley during the spawn. If you're interested just let me know and I'll PM you my e-mail.

Hi Kyle!! If you do have to sell your boat Danny you would find Kyle to an excellent guy to spend some time with on the water. He is knowledgable about the lake and a good bass angler to boot, not to mention just an all around good guy. Even if you don't sell your boat Danny you would find it enjoyable to spend some time on the water with Kyle.

Thanks Dave! I appreciate you not mentioning that time I fished with you when I broke off 4 fish in a row on the hookset. It would be embarrassing if anybody found out about that.

Thanks for the report, Dave. Me and a buddy had planned on going tomorrow. We'll probably put in at Kenlake. However, with the wind they're predicting tomorrow, I'm not sure If I'll be able to get out of that bay. As you know, I mostly put in on South KY, but with the south winds, I'm wondering if the canal might be a better spot to fish. Aside from the dam, is there anywhere to put in really close to the canal (don't think my boat can handle crossing KY Lake with 15-20 mph due south winds)? Are there any accessable ramps actually IN the canal?

Thanks, Kyle

BTW, you going to the Paducah Boat Show today? If you do, I might run in to you.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-28-06 AT 10:35AM (EST)[p]Kyle: As Danny said...I would launch at Double Creek. You would still have some south wind to contend with coming from Double Creek to the canal but it would not be anything as bad as Ky Lake. If you want to avoid the wind altogether you might launch at the public ramp at the back of Poplar Creek and fish in there. I have been contenplating going down to the show later today. Don't know why...it isn't like I don't get to see boat shows all winter...lol. If I do go I will keep an eye out for you. Good luck tomorrow and stay safe.

Kyle....

Hey Kyle,

I'm wanting to go fishing tomorrow too. Want to go? I've invited Rodney, but have not heard back from him yet, so you know what they say about the early bird. We can take my boat if you want.

BTW, yes, I do have it paid for, which is one of the reasons I am so torn about selling. If I did have to continue making payments I would be all over the idea of selling.

If you want to fish up around the canal, I'd recommend putting in at what I believe is Double Creek. It is just to the LBL side of the Barkley locks, and just north (on the lake) of Green Turtle Marina. Besides being a fairly short ride to the canal, the bay itself has yielded many very nice fish for me.

Let me know if you would like to meet there. I'm itching to go. I just really don't want to go by myself in the winter... cold water and all... just for safety sake.

Danny
