Special Kids Tournaments,

"bladesj" replied to a post about our special kids tournaments. I wanted to share with everyone that we gather kids from this category from all around the area. We would like to get as many as we can, all of them are welcome. We had about 50 kids last year and I know there are more. The event is held at Honkers Bay on Ky Lake, from 9:00am to about 2:00pm.
Anyone is welcome to come along and help the kids learn to have fun. We need just as many help as there are kids, so that there is a one on one relationship, let me tell you, you WILL make a friend or two while you're there. These kids love to talk about anything, and a conversation goes a long way with them. I went one time and I was hooked. If anyone would like to help out or knows a group in this category that would be able to come fishing, let me know, the kids get trophies, certificates, tackle, free food and drinks, every kid gets something. Their picture in the paper will be their endless reminder of the good times they had. This year the tourney will be in June, either the 3rd or the 10th, I will know for sure after Feb. 13th. Anyone needing more info or have suggestions let me know anytime. I will find out as much as I can about every detail and will post results. Donations and such go to the St. Judes Children Foundation as they did last year.

just wondering what you need to do to get involved,do the kids go out in a boat or is it a bank fishing thing.i would be interested either way,keep us posted i would need to know in advance to check tourney conflicts and be off work.

The fishing is done from the bank, on our rough draft schedule the date is June 3rd. If it changes I will know Feb. 13th and will post date. It takes nothing to get involved just come on out and help, bring whoever you want with you to help. Some ideas are say if you have extra tackle you are not using, fill up a tackle box and put it as a 1st place or big fish prize, or make zip-lock bags with a few soft plastics in each and give them out to all kids, or if you have a polaroid camera to take pics of the kids catching their fish and give them that pic to take with them. For many last year it was their first fish ever caught. We really put a smile on their face, but they sure do put a bigger one on our face.
