I have about $500 to spend on a depthfinder. What would be the best for my money?

Eagle fishmark 480 which is basiclly the same unit as the x-125 but only has 1500 watts of power compared to the Lowrance at 2400 watts(which is plenty if your shootin off your trollin motor) Try www.threeriversmarine.com to compare units, If it were me I would go with a color unit (lowrance x-102c) for 499. super nice!

If I had $500 to spend on a finder, I'd look around for a Lowrance X85. You can still find them new or near new if you look, and they've dropped in price since Lowrance released the newer X series models. You could buy and X85 which is a nice unit, and maybe have 150 or 200 left over for a valentine's day gift.

X-65 and X-75 are a little less power than the X-85 and may perform a little better in shallow water. I have both, X-75 being the better. Get one used and save a bunch of money. If you find one and you don't take it, let me know, I'm looking for one for the pontoon now. I don't know which Lowrance is comparable to those out of production models. I've always had luck with lowrance.Dave
