Fished laurel for the first time this year for a little float and fly action. Got there early in the mourning, lake clear and low and beautiful. Caught first smallmouth at 8:30 on a baby blue blueback chartruese f-n-f(PUNISHER JIGS)and then caught a trout right after that. The smallmouth was a 18.5" fish, Fat as a hog and a very nice fish. Then the weather started to cool down and that shut them off. Fished Craigs creek, Quaker branch, down towards the ****, up river, everywhere basically and didnt catch another one untill 3:30, I caught another one on the same point that I caught the first one, and then missed another one after that. They were basically stacked up on that point for some reason. That fish was 17.5" smallie(duckfeather with a little red in it) Jig that I made. We never caught another fish for the rest of the day. I guess i fished right. Secondary points, main lake...fished everywhere. My leaders ranged from 8-12..Oh yea ended up catching a total of 2 smallmouth and 7 trout, and had 5 other pulldowns, and 1 hookup. Trout was in the jumps believe it or not. Theye were jumping everywhere. You will not belive how i caught the trout either. I was just playing around and was acting like i was fly fishing. I took the bobber off of my rig and just fly casted for them, I watched my line and when it twitched I set the hook and caught trout.lol. I didnt do this all the time, just when they were jumping everywhere around the boat. tightlines everybody. Anybody going to take a trip to laurel email me at [email protected] and I will tell you the point i caught the fish off of, lol I always catch fish off that point in summer and winter.
