    RE: Ranger or Triton

    Dave,

I truly believe both are very good boats. If not, neither would be nearly as prominent on the water.

When I was shopping I chose the Triton for one very important reason; it was the only one at the time that "FIT" me! I am a big guy, and my knees did not fit under many consoles, and I was determined to use a hot foot. Now I would have gone with the Ranger. Why? I doubt that if I ever buy another boat, but I won't be getting another hot foot. I've found that my foot pumps the hot foot when I hit big waves, and I just don't think that is all that great for a motor. Plus almost all the boats now have power steering. That means you don't have to have both hands on the wheel all the time like my old boat.

Now the Ranger has raised the consoles too, so that would not be a problem anyway. In fact, one of the reasons my wife wanted me to sell my boat is because she wanted me to buy a ranger. Pointing out that not working, I doubt I could afford it, she agreed to have me keep my boat.... LMAO

Truthfully, emotionally in my heart, I really would love to have a ranger. I don't know why, but I have always wanted one. I have to say also that when I was shopping, the Triton had much better floor space and storage. I think Ranger has addressed that as well now.

Lastly, Skeeter still has a very nice boat. Add to that it comes with the theft deterent system, and well you have a one of a kind system.

All those words boil down to this, choose the one that "FITS" you the best.

Dave, give me a call if you are interested in a Triton. I wont get into an argument here. Truth is they are both good boats, I would be happy to tell you the benefits of the Tritons.

    RE: Ranger or Triton

hey I have been in both Tritons and Rangers....both ride good... and are nice boats... I have to say I would personaly rather have the Triton... I fish with a guy that has a TR-21 with a yamahammer 225 hpdi and that thing will FLY!!! and its smooth... I have drove his boat on KY lake and it GPS alittle over 75.... thats flying... the Ranger is just not going to run that kinda number. The Ranger MIGHT be alittle better ride BUT boat for boat there not much ride difference and the Triton will run circles around the Ranger.....both are very nice boats!

    RE: Ranger or Triton

Well, maybe I can add something here...since I just coughed up the money to buy a new Ranger 520. I also have a Triton TR-20. I can't speak for the 21 FT models, but in all honesty the post before mine pretty much hits it on the head. My Triton is much faster and has a pretty comparable ride to the Ranger. However, you can't match the lifetime benefits of owning a Ranger Boat. And if you are going to fish competitively, you need to pay close attention to the incentives on the trail you are going to fish. Just my two cents....Either way, both awesome boats! But I love my new Ranger!

    dealer vs. brand

    Dave,
Something I always tell our customers on this subject is to find a dealer you know will work hard for you and be their long term, and then find a boat at that dealer. In the fishing business 85% of the dealerships are run poorly, this is why Yamaha holds business training every year. If you want to make a decesion that is going to help you long run, I would find a dealer in your area that you live or closet to you that fits you, then buy the boat that he sells. Because truth be told, any dealer and any time can sell just about any boat. So your better off being stuck with a good dealer that will work with you, rather than a certain brand of boat that might not.

    RE: dealer vs. brand

Matt is correct. Both are good boats but let the best dealer win.
With all things being equal you have to look at service. Plapp's will win this hands down, IMO.
I have a TR20X with a 225 Yamaha HPDI and I will put it up against any Ranger out there. Both are great fishing platforms but I like my Triton. I have always heard about Rangers and it was a real hard decision 7 years ago when I bought my first bass boat, and I went with a Triton. Then 2 years ago I was planning a move up and again looked at Rangers, but decieded on another Triton for one reason. When buying a bass boat you do not want to make a mistake. If you are in boat X and decided to go to boat Y and do not like boat Y it is going to cost a whole lot of money to change. So I stayed with the brand I came to know and love, Triton.
So if you have been in a Triton and do not like it, I say change. But if you like it why would you change? Just to have something different? This could end up costing you a lot of $$$$.
But life is too short, so I say go with you gut and if you have always wanted a Ranger or Triton or anything else, I for one would say go for it and enjoy it. Above all NEVER tell you wife that you think you made the wrong decision.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. What a big help. I probably won't be buying for a while, but I sure appreciate the honest answers to my question
