Hey Steve R or George S

Has anything been decided on the classics for both of your esteemed fishing organizations yet? Just wondering if one group had called mercy yet?

    Hey Buzz,

I did send an email to ABA headquarters asking them to let us know if the dates were changing and they said NO. Everything is going as planned.

Kyle, I cannot speak for Midwest Sportsmen but the ABA has not changed dates or location. The ABA will not change its dates, and I'm sure Midwest is locked in as well. The lake will be very busy but I'm sure all will work out.

This is not a flame. I'm just curious -- if you even know -- why the ABA would schedule their classic the same place and time as another 400-boat classic.

The Midwest Sportsman Classic has always been the first week of Oct. on Ky and Barkley. I've lost count, this will be what, the fifth or sixth one? And from what I understand, they secured the permits to use the ramps at Ky Dam and Kuttawa for the 2006 Classic before they left last year's classic.

They are big lakes, though and I'm sure we'll all get along (maybe, lol). It will make getting hotel rooms and parking spots near the ramp hard to come by, though.

I do not want too point fingers but from what I have been told this was caused by Marshall Co. Tourism department. They were told that Midwest was not coming back this year. So Marshall Co went out and signed an aggreement with the ABA.
I can tell you that the ABA was not aware of the conflict and has been working with Marshall Co to resolve it. I beleive Marshall Co is also working with Midwest.

    Hello All,

I just wanted to touch base on this subject, just to inform all who are asking about the midwest classic.I am the director for
the tanners creek division in indiana and talk to the indiana state director about once a week. The info i give here is straight from the indiana state director (Phillip Tussey),The
Midwest Sportsman Classic will NOT be on kentucky and barkley lakes in 2006.there was 2 locations being looked at and it seems as they have already made choice. One is the ohio river out of Paducah,ky the other is Lake Guntersville in Alabama this is where i was told the classic will be.
The classic will be held on the same dates oct.4-6 2006

If they do move it, I sure hope it's Guntersville and not the Ohio River. We didn't join Midwest until after the year the Classic was on the river, and the guys I've talked to who fished it said they didn't like the river at all.

I like the Classic on Ky/Barkley, but maybe a move will turn out to be good. The playing field should be much more even on a different lake.

First and foremost, I want to say there is not a problem between the ABA organization and Midwest Sportsman.

Also, Robert Thompson (Tanners Creek Director) has been given some false information about our Classic. We are NOT going to the Ohio River in Paducah or Lake Guntersville.

The descision as to where we hold our classic is the sole responsibility of Gary Bailey, the owner of Midwest Sportsman.

George stated the problem correctly...the Marshall Co Tourism Board(Randy Newcomb) was told by someone locally that Midwest Sportsman was not going to return this year. The truth is, we had every intention of returning this year. In fact, we currently have the necessary permits to use the Kentucky Dam Marina Ramp and the Kuttawa Ramp. The ABA organization does not.

It would seem that the Marshall Co Tourism Board (Randy Newcomb) could have avoided this situation of having two very large tournaments on the lake at the same time by simply picking up the phone and verifying whether Midwest Sportsman was going to bring our classic back to Ky Lake. After all, we have held our classic there at the same time & place for six years!!

Again, this is NOT the fault of the ABA or Midwest Sportsman and Gary Bailey (Midwest Sportsman Owner)is currently working to resolve the situation. If we ever decide to leave KY Lake, We will make a formal announcement on our website and I will also post the information on Fishin.Com

    Hey Steve,

I'm not fishing either of these organizations, and if I did, probably would not make the classic...LOL

I just have one thing that I have been wondering...

    Who scheduled first?

Not history, I know you guys had been there for years, but who actually scheduled with the Marshal County Tourism board first?

I don't know, maybe I am over simplifying it, but it seems kind of like the big motor concept.... first to the fishing hole.

In anycase, I know you guys will work it out.
