Just watched a rescue of sorts on T.V.

Two fisherman had hung their boat up on some rocks down at the falls of the ohio below McAlpine. It was on 32 news live when the coast guard pulled them off, they did it from the rear of the boat and put a healthy amount of water inside that boat. Kind of a fiasco really, did anybody else see this mess? This just happened over the lunch time hour just now.

i was out there fishing too ,we tried to help them but they had no rope ,and niether did we .they didn't even have an anchor rope !!!!!then they said they called the fire dept .there was news choppers in the air filming them .Just a case of not knowing the river, they tried to run their boat thru the hole in the duck pond wall !!!!!
By the way the sauger and walleye are in the height of the spawning run

RE: River Help

I have never put a boat in below Mcapline. Anybody willing to provide enough info to keep me safe as far as not hitting the dangerous rocks.

Also, is a KY fishing license good for fishing from bank on indiana side, is the falls of ohio park as good a place as any for bank fishing? Dave

LAST EDITED ON Feb-18-06 AT 11:03AM (EST)[p]I have never put my boat in the falls so I cant help you with the channel. But I do know you CAN fish the Indiana backs along the ohio aslong as you dont go up in any creeks. You can also fish the falls of the ohio too, and at times fishing there can be very good on the bank. Earlier this week I fished there and caught several sauger, and in the summer the catfishing is good too. Good Luck

I'm not sure about that. If you are standing on the banks of the Indiana side of the river---you better have Indiana licenses. If you are in a boat---then you're good unless you venture up into a creek. Maybe I am wrong---but I don't think so.

this question comes up every once and a while. Last time i posted a link to the KDFW that explains the rule. I don't have time to look for it right now but it's just what bigrod said.

Enjoy, with either KY or IN license

RE: River Help

You can without a doubt stand on the Indiana banks and fish with a Ky fishing license, but DO NOT VENTURE UP IN THE CREEKS, the DNR guys watch for that. Had one tell me the mouth of a creek is o.k. just don't get to far back from the mouth and you'll be alright. Indiana guys have the same courtesy on Ky. banks.

RE: River Help

Man I found out the hard way that is not the case with all the
ID.DNR.Me and a buddy got a hefty ticket for just that but I made sure to keep the boat way out in the river and was casting at the mouth not up in it and I'll be george if an IN. game warden didn't come sneaking through the bushes"thick bushes"
and gave us a stinking ticket for fishing in IN.Boy did we take
a beating on that one.I hope I go buy that guy sometime while he's broke down or something.I sure would spit on him while I was going by.I don't think they like the fact that we own the river.I'v been hunting and fishing alot for 25 years and that's the only ticket I have ever got.

I agree!!!

I have always heard (falls of the ohio and ky dept. fish and wildlife) that Indiana and Kentucky have an agreement that on any side you can fish on the bank with either license. If you really want to be exact I do believe you can fish anywhere on the ohio river in any state with any license aslong as you dont go up in any creeks.

Believe I would have had my life jacket on. Looked like
neither one in boat had one on.
