BassPro Reels

What does everyone think of BassPro reels? How do they compare to Shimano, Abu Garcia, and Quantum reels? What do you prefer.

I recently purchased Johnny Morris Signature reel and have fished with about 4 times and so far love it...especially for the money. What does everyone else think?

Has anyone ever used the Bass Pro Royal Express Baitcaster, evidently it is specially made for the Missouri BassPro Store. I have heard it is similar to the BPS Pro Qualifer and I hear good things about this reel. What can anyone tell me about it...cost?? quality?

What about BassPro Rods? What are the best rods to use. Personally I like a rod that is MH to Heavy.

tell ya what. i have 2 rick clunn reels & rods a pro qualifier set up a mega tournament reel and a royal and just purchesd a daiwa viento with a bassmaster rod and i love every one of theme i use each one for diffrent typs of fishing my next buy will be the johnny morris set up. but i thank bass pro rod and reels are just as good as anythig on th market.

I have had several, The Pro Qualifiers are by far the best, never used a JM series. I have used about every other one. I have had a few break, but have always been replaced free of charge. The Pro Qualifier stands the test better then some of my high dollar Diawa's and Pflugers. I have also never used a spinning reel, but as far as repairing them free of charge BPS is the best.

out of the box, the JM sig. reel is as good as any on the market and will be so for a couple years depending on usage. Unfortunately they do not hold up over long periods of time, no matter how much you baby them, eventually they will go to the bottom of the rod box, or the back of the garage, and you will have the shimano in your hand. great reels, just dont last, I have 2 rick clunn's and one JM sig., still use them on heavy baits, but the brakes wear out and the lighter stuff will give you nice birds nests in your reels.

I have a few of the BPS reels and I don't care mutch for them. They do and OK job. I have 4 and have sent all 4 back to be replaced.

I have several BPS reels and some have had to have repair. I send them to Outdoor World Reel Repair in Springfield and have yet to be charged for a repair. I look at them kind of like a Craftsman tool. They may not be the best tool thats made but the guarantee certainly is.

The bass pro shops pro qualifier xps 1000's are great reels,i've had 6 of em and tried to wear em out but can't do it.They are a really good bargain also,at 50-60 dollars a piece you can buy 2 of them for what you'll pay for 1 shimano which lets you try 2 different gear ratios for the same amount of money.Try one,i'm sure you'll like it and if you don't you can always sell it.

for the money they are great reels i have 4 of them that i use for catfish and stripers they have held up great i always keep them clean and oiled up

Bass pro reels are good reels for the money... BUT Shimano's are NO QUESTION dollar for dollar the best reel on the market today..... dont get me wrong the average fisherman that just goes fishing a few times a month a Bass Pro reel will be just fine... BUT for people that use them alot a bass pro reel will fall apart.....I have had about every kind of bass pro reel made and I get about 6 months to a year out of one.... although dont get me wrong I fish like 3 days a week in the summer 4 some weeks and atleast ones a week if not more in the winter... I put about 2 1/2 years worth of work on a reel in one year....

BUT I use all Shimano now and even though I pay more for them at the begining when its all said and done I am getting a reel that FOR ME anyway that will last 4 times as long....there just made better.... once you buy one its REALLY had to use anything else...

I love Shimano but I bought a few Bass Pro Extremes combo's because they were cheap and I find myself picking up the Extremes often. They cast good and the Extreme rod fits my hand better than most rods. At 50 or 60 dollars (when bought as a combo) I consider the Extreme reels almost disposable . If it last 4 years thats 15 dollars a year even though I expect them to last longer. I'm not as worried about scratching them, or dropping them so I use them more. I have a nice Curado at the bottom of Reelfoot lake if anyone were to snag it give me an email. Whats the chances of having 5 reels in the boat and the one I kick out is the Curado? Just my luck!

The wind was howling that day and I couldn't hold the boat still to retrieve it in the dingy water but boy did I try.

That hurts!! I know.

In 1995 for our anniversary, I bought my wife a $230 reel, and a $100 rod. We were staying at the lake in a cabin... Barkley lake.

She wanted to go on into the cabin, so I took her back to the dock, and I went back out fishing. Guess who's reel is at the bottom of Barkley?? Yep, she got one use out of it.

I guess now I know what that man overboard is for on my GPS, which by the way, I did not have back then!!
