Hey Guys and Gals,
I am in the Market for a new or possibly slightly used Trolling Motor. I have been reading about Minn Kota's and Motor Guides, which I have now. Needing Foot control with a min. of 65lbs. of thrust. Any recommendations as to what I purchase. My Motor Guide has been a decent trolling motor but I have never owned and/or fished with a MinnKota.
Thanks,
BKH

I've a MinnKotta Maxxum 73 lb. thrust on my 21' Triton. Love it.
I had a motor guide electric steer on my poontoon boat, never a minute trouble, it was a 12 volt.
Maybe my best was a 12/24 volt Evenrude that was on my Stratos. However they don't make them anymore. it was by far the quietest of the three.

My opinion is Minn Kota is quieter.
I talked to a mechanic that had been to both schools and is certified to repair either. He said Minn Kota stood behind the warranty better and that the motor guide was a bit overated power wise. He said they had test tanks to check the power and the motor guides seems to fall short somewhat. I have had good luck with both of them myself.
I've had OMC's,Motorguides and Minn Kota's over the years. I have not tried the newest Motorguides, but I sure do like my Minn Kota. Out of the three---my Motorguide spent time in the shop. The Minn Kota has not in three seasons so far.
I use a Minn kota 55# AT trolling motor now and used 42# AT for several years. I would buy one over a motorguide
Thru different boat purchases I've only had Motor Guide. That being said, my next purchase will be a Minnkota
