does any one know when the spoonbill/paddle fish head up toward markland dam to spawn is it feb. or march i have a few friends say that you can snag them. heavy duty rod and 35lb test line any comment?

I think Indiana put in some new regulations for snagging spoonbills below Markland a few years ago due to some on the locals snagging spoonbills and cutting them open for the eggs to resell for Russian caviar.cut the fish open take the eggs and throw the fish over the hillside.Check the regulations for snagging below the dam or you will be ticketed.Indiana keeps a close watch below Markland and I for one are glad they do.Bear in mind most fish in the ohio river are hot with mercury and pcbs and are not recommended for too many meals a year
Don't know when they come in to spawn. Accidently tail hooked at 20# down there last year while Hybrid fishing. That was interesting landing that in heavy current! Might check the regs on snagging. I know it is legal some places. Don't know if you can do it at all dams.
