    Honest question, please honest answer.....

the Ike thread has been hotter than the one about what we all do for a living.

Several have mentioned "our" fits on the water.

OK, now for the honest question, and hopefully the honest answers....

Have you ever lost your temper and threw that kind of fit on the water?

Now granted, none of us were probably fishing for $500K, but this is not Mike's first rodeo, he has fished for huge sums before.

My answer.... NO, although when I was in my teens I would lose my temper and throw those types of fits, I over came my temper by my junior year. Now that doesn't mean I don't still get mad. It just means I control it, it does not control me.

Your turn everyone.... how about it?

RE: Honest question, please honest answer.....

A few years ago I was fishing a Red Man tourney in April at Cumberland. I had a set of docks located up in a creek arm and in the afternoon the water temp would warm up around these docks and some big sows would move up around them to bask in the warm water. I was a non-boater and drew a guy from Cincy. He was on a pattern of some good ky bass. I told him that I had only one area to fish that day that I had any confidence in so he agreed to take me there around noon. About noontime we had both blanked so we proceeded to the warm water around the docks. I skipped a smoke weightless tube under one of the docks and a real hawg grabbed it. After a lengthy battle (8lb. test on spinning gear) we slipped the net under her. I new the big girl was close to a 6pounder and felt confident that I had a shot at the $1000 big fish prize. There was already water in my right side livewell so I put her in it and shut the lid. When we were done fishing the docks we cranked up the big Merc and headed towards the weigh-in site. While running something told me to look in the well and check on my fish. To my astonishment the well was bone dry! I yelled to him to stop the boat. We quickly came to a hault and proceeded to turn on the livewell to give her some dire needed water and got her back to breathing better again. The boater had only had this new boat for a couple of weeks and wasnt familiar with all the switches on the livewell system. Did I scream or throw a temper-tantrum? No. It was my fault for not going over the correct livewell operation before we left the dock that morning. I was not his responsibility to take care of my fish in the first place. Ike at no time admitted to neglagence on his part. Have I cusssed outloud because of a missed fish or a broken line? Yes. Did I tear anything up? No. Fishing is between you and the fish. Just take a look in the mirror and see who is at fault. Learn from it and go on .Yes I still did win the big fish money and she was in good shape.

Well I must say a few years back we had a running big fish pot that was up to about 1700 dollars and I had a fish probably in the 8 lb range on and lost him right at the boat due to some bad netting. I lost it. I cursed and threw about 150 dollar rod and reel in the lake. That fish was worth about 3200 dollars in all. So yes i have threw a tantrum on the water. Good thing I had quit drinking like I used too.

I agree with Mr. Shadrap, Ike is a joke indeed...however, the guy must be doing something right, earning a living out of fishing for a living which is what lots of us WISH we could do.

Back to the question...Nope, never have lost my temper when I'm at, on or even remotely near the water...the only thing that has made me lose my temper even briefly is when I've done something really stupid like step on a rod and breaking it when it was laying in the boat when it should have been placed in the storage compartment...

Yes I have cussed but NEVER destroyed "SOME ELSE'S" property. I think that he is also guilty of not showing respect for others as well as the sport.

Have I ever lost my temper? Yup, and cussed like crazy. But I never went and broke anything. Equipment is too expensive to go pulling that.

Come on Billy, answer it... have you been on the water and thrown that kind of fit, or just totally lost your temper?

I have gotten pretty upset, but never have broken anything. Did use some R rated language, but when a 6 comes off at the boat who can blame you?
