    New Classic Champ

Was it me or did Luke Clausen seem like he would have rather been somewhere else? I mean no whoops, hollers, fist shaking , nothing! Even when Van Dam won for the second time he was jumping up and down. Even the crowd seemed to be out of it. I get more excited over winning one of little bitty club tournaments than he did about winning "The Dream" tournament for most if not all serious bass tournament anglers.

I'm not trying to criticize him, but he was just flat, no more emoptin than a smile. Maybe he was in shock or awe of it all, or even felt a little embarrassed or intimidated in front of all those people. Maybe it was just his way.

Well, conradulations to him on his achievment.

Several of those guys including Clausen probably fished their last BASS tournament. I know a bunch of them have already started fishing the FLW circuit this year. I think he won a big FLW tournament a couple of years ago.

    Cool Hand Luke

The guy is either extremely shy/introverted or he was blown away that he won and didn't know how to act. I was kind of shocked how unemotional he was to winner the BIG ONE and 500K and everything that goes along with a Classic win!

I think he was just overwelmed with all the production and just plain tired after fighting the weather all day plus just getting pass all the commericals.

ESPN could have shortened the show by 30 mintues. It was a shame that all 25 of the guys did not get stage time to thank their sponsors and fans, not even Rick Clunn, way to go ESPN.

How about ESPN's lack of promotion to the new Federation Nation, Jimmy Johnson from the Federation finished quite well, you would think that would be something to talk about, ESPN showed what they think of the Federation guy's, not one WORD and plenty commmerical time about ESNP! Jeff Coble from the ESPN Outdoors Series didn't even mentioned.

All in all, I think the coverage was poor at best. I was rooting for Wirht and sorry that Menendez didn't make the cut.

    Just my opinion

I just think that he is a reserved young man. His Mom and Dad were the same way. They were all smiles but and happy. My wife thought he was embarrassed and a little in shock about the win. Plus I think he knew he was the winner well before he was on the stage. I'm sure he knew what all the other guys had before they got up there and Luke knew that it would not even be close. It will be interesting to see what guys will be back next year and who fishes FLW only. I also agree that the WHOLE coverage was bad. I will be sending ESPN an email tell them what I think, not that it will matter.

I think he won the FLW tour championship a couple of years ago(another half a million) Not 100% sure of that.

Yep he won another 500,000. in 2004 (FLW Championship) He's just quiet and laidback, nothing wrong with that.

I also heard that he did not accept the position for the Busch shoot out, and I thought maybe because it was sponsored by a Busch beer? Maybe this shows that he and is family are very reserved people, but no matter how reserved I am I would have been doing triple back 360 axle summer saults or whatever. What a dream though. Congrats to the man, no matter how he acted and a big thumbs down on the ESPN coverage. I watched almost the entire coverage because that is how pumped I am about the sport, but I was very very dissapointed with the lack of showing other guys weighing in. I know the fishing part is going to air in probably two weeks, but the weigh in of others not shown was a disappointment,no Clunn on the fianl day?! too much BS about Ike. And awesome job by K Wirth.

Who knows. Maybe with all the buzz going around about Ike, or possibly even he noticed that the actual event coverage was awful. By the time he won he may have been as bored with it as most of us were. okay i won, give me the trophy and my check, let me round up mom and dad so we can get out of here. You fella's go ahead and take the lustre out of the event, I'm outta here. Or maybe he wanted outta there before they had Velvick or Zona do an interveiw!!
Congrats to Luke, Good Fishin' Guys

I agree, it was rather anti-climatic!! It was kind of like having that Christmas let down, but having it two days early!!!!

    LOL

I kept hearing though, that only 5 of the guys fishing were switching to FLW only, that was Nixon, Cochran, Shuffeild,... OK, someone help me out... there are two more, and my mind just went back.

Did any of you notice the announcer whisper something in Luke's ear before KVD came up to give the trophy to Luke? Then Luke kept looking over to his right, as if looking for someone to cue him as to when to raise the trophy.

I'm like you guys, if I win a small tourney, I get really excited, but then I'm not a fisherman of Luke's caliber. In any case, WOW.... winning a cool million in just two tournaments, and within a couple years spread.... I'd have been dancing... and oh yeah, it would not be break dancing, but would probably be more closely resembling Elain (off of Seinfeild) when she was dancing.
