    RE: Ranger Drops Ike

From what i saw on the tube,if I made boats to make money, there would have to be a better fisherman to push my product. The act/show could only be a negative and hurt the sponser and it was stupid. It makes ranger look like thier livewells do not work, so they should have dropped him.

He was fishing out of a triton not a ranger. Everyone at the classic has to use a triton boat provided by B.A.S.S. and triton

    RE: Ranger Drops Ike--Makes Sense

    Hey Guys,

Remember this makes perfect sense, and here's why. Ike has seemingly migrated away from FLW to BASS and is fishing the Elite series. This would not leave him much time to fish the FLW tour or series.

Irwin Jacobs owns FLW and Genmar... which owns Ranger. Irwin ahs been quite outspoken against BASS. It also seems to me that Irwin has shown he can be vendictive. So, it seems this could have been the exact thing Irwin was hoping for so he could drop Ike, for Ike dropping FLW.

Just my thoughts.... nothing more. But remember, Byron Velvick inked the deal for Basscenter, and Ranger pulled their sponsorship and with it, Byron lost his FLW slot.

You are right, but Denny did not sign a deal to host BassCenter. Denny had a show that he had basically sold to ESPN, in Schooled by Denny Brauer. Byron became an employee. Over the weekend, Denny was simply making appearances as a contracted employee... or at least that would be my best guess. I just remember when Byron started on BassCenter, very first show, he talked about having lost his Ranger sponsorship. At the same time on Bassfan.com was an article that said when Byron lost his sponsorship, he lost his sponsor slot on the tour, and that he had not qualified to fish the tour through the tournaments, so he was out.

I can't remember, but didn't Denny get a new deal this year? I know there is a contest to design Denny's rig and truck wrap.

If you own the ball, you can take it home anytime you want to.

Absolutely Billy. And as long as the only other person to own a ball, BASS, is messing up, he can keep it up his way or the highway.

However, sooner or later, someone else will show up with a ball.... maybe the PAA?

It is an interesting time in pro fishing.

    RE: Ranger Drops Ike

Well, not that I know a lot about Ike or even past anglers who've been DQ'ed for their actions... but how in the heck can anyone who has the opportunity to fish (or play football, basketball, baseball and so on) for a living - doing something you have fun doing - and make money doing it (I'd do it for the gear alone if I were any good!) - make such a lame mistake to lose their sponsor ($$$) I'll never understand. It's not just bass fishing obviously, but how these people could screw up such a good thing that most anyone else would never take for granted blows my mind.
