LAST EDITED ON Feb-28-06 AT 10:00PM (EST)[p]I'm sure they don't make their own batteries. See if you can find out who makes them and this will give you a better idea about the quality. I always look at it as you don't buy batteries as much as you rent them. So the better the warranty the better deal it is for the consumer. I like buying batterys at Walmart. Not because they are better but when they go bad they stand behind the warranty and give you a new one, no questions asked. I'm sure there are other stores that will do the same. I have had companies like interstate which make a good battery hastle me when I say the battery is bad and wont hold a charge and they say it test ok. I have some XPS batteries that came with my boat and have had no problems. I would go back to Walmart to get new ones though, just because of the no hastle exchange policy. You would be surprised to see how many batteries are made in the same place and sold with a different sticker and brand name. Will you have to pay shipping on the XPS or are you close enough to exchange it if it goes bad? Good luck.

RE: XPS Battery

I bought the larger 185 model a little over a year ago and was disappointed with it. I would charge it to 100%, take it off the charger to charge a different battery and then when I put the charge back on it 2 days later it would be down to 95%. If I would leave the charger off for a week it would be down 85%. So I took it back to Bass Pro, they saw it was just over a year old and did an even swap for another 185 model. I got that one home and put it on the charger and it was already down to 55%. I checked the water, it was fine, and charged it up. I took the charger off, 2 days later I put the charger on to see if it held the charge. It had already dropped to 85%. I said forget and took it back and got a refund.

Tonight I just picked up an Everstart Maxx Marine from Walmart for $64. The battery is made by Johnson Controls and that company definately knows what they are doing. It comes with an 18 month free replacement warranty. The best part is if the battery does go bad Walmart is 5 minutes away where as Bass Pro is an hour and a half away.

Not stirring, just talking....

WalMart's return policy for the rest of their products is not as liberal as it is for their batteries apparently. I know they have on occassion really hastled me and my wife at the service desk, but on batteries you are right, they have just made the swap or at least given the prorated return.

Now my question is why is it so easy to exchange the batteries? Is there a known problem, so they just make the switch? Or is it the manufacturer of the batteries? Maybe they, the manuf. that makes it so easy.

I really don't know, but I've a friend who has had nothing but trouble with the Everstart batteries in his boat, and I've had poor luck with the automobile batteries lasting very long.

The bad thing is that you usually find out the boat battery is bad after you get to the lake!!! LOL

Been using Wal-Mart batteries for years. Never had any problems wth them at all. I think they are the best battery for the money.

I've also used about every brand battery there is and I'm using Everstart right now. They all last three to five years in my experience, so I'll stick with the cheaper one.

Thanks for the info guys...I went to Bass Pro yesterday and found out that the batteries on sale were only 90 AMP hours not the 105s I wanted. So I'm still looking.

Man was the store crowded.....everybodys got the fever.

I have used AC Delco for years and have never been let down by them. You will get several good years out of them. I highly recommend them.

RE: XPS Battery

Richman, Get your self AC Delco Voyagers. either 27 or 30 models. They are maintenace free, no filling of water, or battery acid to deal with. I had a set in my boat for over 5 years and are still going strong. I just got a new boat and put
3 30's in the boat. @ 108.00 each...They are the best I have found for the price, and not have to do anything but go fishing.
Also get your self an onboard charger, they will help to make the batteries last longer....
