Need Help
I saw in our local paper this week that a large company out of Bowling Green has applied for a permit to operate a 60 acre rock quarry .3 miles from Green River near Munfordville. This will be a gravel operation. My question is how much will the limestone runoff change the ph in the river? My feeling is that it could cause a lot of damage. I called the state EPA trying to get some info. No answer, left a message. They did not return my call. I also called a group called Kentucky state water watch. Same result. I think they have an office at UK, but I couldn't find a number. Who else could I contact for information? Maybe this is nothing, but it has me concerned. I know I can change the ph of my entire lawn with one 50 pound bag of limestone, much less a 60 acre quarry operating for years. You input would be helpful.
