we have been getting some of the biggest sauger I have ever seen the past 2 weeks

I see the gauge on the river is right nice now but no one has any recent posts on catching any. How are they biting these days? I only wish I could get out there but the way I am hacking I would only scare them off (or cough up a lung)!

'Tis the season. It's not often that early March has the river down close to pool. Darn I wish I could get out!!! Thanks for the report.
kc
what area of the river are you fishing... around the fosil beds?
Caught some beautiful sauger this morning across from the center. When I say beautiful, the colors on these fish were magnificent. Returned all to the river so you can catch them too.
I am pretty sure jfw is referring to the falls area. With the gauge they have now if there is any current up above the fish will mostly be there. If not they will be more down towards the lower dam.

Fished at Markland on Saturday. Caught several nice fish. Several boats but not too crowded to find your spot and get some good action.
went today and frooze to death I was wondering where the 50 deg temp was at ? The wind was brutal but we did get some nice fish ,like the previous poster said they were the most colorful fish I have seen ,the water color is awesome for this time of year.
Alot of boats were out for a Monday ,guess my best kept secret is out now !!!!!!LOL
I can remember before they built the Interp Center ,you almost never would see another boat out there ,epecially on the weekdays .
Now I can't wait for the Strpers to start biting ,the upper spillway was almost shut down ,the lower was running about 3 across = 12ft of dam at the lower .The fish we caught today were in the main river channnel in about 24 ft of water ,we had to use minnows on our jigs
we went tuesday ,we hooked some fish in 31 feet of water only managed to boat 3 lost several sauger, went today .....man too much water coming out of spillway to launch ,put boat up & fished from shore no luck
I did see one boat that used Harrison ave ramp I am sure he put in before they opened the spillway ....I am sure he will have to take out at New Albany ,your trailer will get washed away at Harrison Ave
It was too good to last very long! I wish I could have made it out there before the water came up. March sauger have been rare for me.
kc
KC go to the boat ramp and fish off the bank ,there is an awesome back eddie .the lower dam is running a lot of water and the back eddie on the right side of the ramp should be awesome today
River has completely changed ,they hammered off the lower dam, opened the upper now level is 19ft and rising ....Fish the back eddie upriver from the colgate ditch ,leave the boat at home and put the waders on LOL.,The color is still fishable with all the rain we have had
