Record hunters?? These 3 men that caught the fish hold 3 of the top 25 biggest largemouth records with one at 21-7

That's exactly my point, why not weigh it on a certified scale (that was close by) and take measurements. Anything to add some validity to the story. It may have well been 25 lbs and I would like to see the record broken but this has happened several times in California that a record has supposed to have been caught but all have been released without weighing it in front of witnesses on a certified scale. The only thing I can think was they figured it didn't qualify since it was foul hooked so they let it go to try for it again. Still they didn't seem to have a very good game plan for record hunters (no certified scale, no measurements just a non certified digital scale). I guess the thing that makes me wonder the most is it is reported there is a certified scale available at Dixon Lake and its only 70 acres. Why not put it on the certified scale just to be on the safe side in case by some small chance it did qualify. I know there are record bass in California and I would be the last one to rain on the parade. Its the uncanny actions by the anglers that catch these large fish that makes no sense to me. Always releasing them before using a certified scale, never caring about the million or so they will make. I will say the picture sure looks like it could have weighed that much so why not take a few measurements to further verify the size? It just make no sense to me. As for me I would have gladly paid the fine for keeping a foul hooked fish. It would have more than paid for its self in the long run. I would have gotten that fish to a certified scale even if they put me in handcuffs and made me spend the night in the county jail (which I doubt). Well anyway its just a matter of time before the record is broken in California so we may not have too long to wait. This fish will get no mercy in this 70 acre lake until its caught again. Good conversation, heck don't get mad just because we don't see eye to eye on this. I'm like Dave Stewart I'd have a certified scale around my neck. MarkW as far as I know there have only been two bass certified over 20 lbs that did not come from California. One in Florida and the world record in Georgia. It looks like California for whatever reason has the next record wrapped up.

    RE: Possible new record

These two guys do know how to treat record fish, both of these guys are already in the record books with 20 pound fish, thats even stated in the espn article!I love how so many jealous guys are so quick to dismiss or discredit someone else.If they thought it wouldn't be a legal catch since it was foul hooked and released it for that reason then i think they did the right thing.I'm already over so many people bashing them, just say congratulations and move on,awesome fish!!

    I agree to some extent

Vmaxx---I agree to some extent. But, let's face it, it was a "pet" fish that finally got big enough. It's cool and all, especially knowing a bass can get that big---it was a SUPER HOG for sure. But if it had been caught in the same similiar fashion or scenario as Mr. Perry's fish had been, then I would think it would be more special and newsworthy.
I work with a guy who went out to Lake Dixon last year in hopes of catching that new record. He actually even met Jed Dickerson, the buddy of the guy who "caught" the new record. He said they have been catching this same fish since about 2001. Each time it has gotten bigger. So, there records have been for the same fish. Kind of funny if you think about it. I'm not raining on their parade---but it wasn't like they were out for fun on some lake and just luckily caught this giant.
Shoot--he was even given a earlier time then normal to go out on the lake. My buddy said they won't even let you fish til 7 am and that's when they rent you the electric boats. But for some reason, this guy "set the hook" at 6:40 am. HMMM--guess he was worried that someone else was going to get it.
Anyway----anybody think we have any near that potential in our lakes??????

Also, since they said it was on a bed---who's to say that she won't go right back on the bed and somebody else comes along and catches her. Apparently, from the sound of the article, alot of people witnessed it and also saw where she was sitting. Somebody will get her and claim the record.
