    wind direction

I would like to hear from any of you that have had good luck with the wind coming out of the North or East. Always heard it was hard fishing and it seems to be true most of the time. Fishing fact or fiction?

    RE: wind direction

Wind from the south, blows the bait in the fish's mouth
Wind from the west, fish bite the best
Wind from the east, fish bite the least
Wind from the norht, don't venture forth.

That summs up my experience with wind directions perfectly.

Not the usual but had some really good luck sat (bluebird skies, wind from north) at cumberland fishin a club tx. Other that that its usually the opposite. The tales are usually true about the wind.

    RE: wind direction

Been fishing for alot of years and that ole North and East wind sure has made alot of blank trips for me. To the point that I usually wont go if the wind is out of the North. Sometime if your out fishing and Ya know the wind is gonna change from good to bad watch for it and see what happens. I fish with a couple guys that I am old enough to be their father. One night fishing with one of em we catching some good fish and as a matter of fact my partner had just lost a good solid 5 lber. Then a Northeast wind hit me right in the face. I told my partner well thats it we might as well go home. We caught 1 more fish in the next 3 hours. He was amazed that I knew this and learned a real lesson of fishing. So yes the wind plays a big role in the fish bite. My opinion.

Generally a north or east quadrant wind signifies you are fishing post frontal which is always tougher fishing than prefrontal or during stationary frontal conditions. This is because our weather patterns generally travel from west to east here in the northern hemisphere. An exception to this would be like when we have the remnants of a tropical storm traveling north from the Gulf of Mexico and it passes just to the east of you....in this case the barometric pressure would be falling with a north or east quadrant wind and the fishing can be very good if you can stand the high wind etc...lol.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule and I am sure we have all at one time or another caught some very active fish after a frontal passage..but it certainly is not the norm.

Dave's analysis is again stellar. I'd like to add that the effect of wind and fronts depends on when, where and the type of fish you are trying to catch.

Just remember that Denny will deduct points if you fish with the wind 8^)

Must not be to bad Danny. He is constantly after me to go when his wife will let him go. Most of the time I have to ask if he can go. He's to scared to ask. He's a big ole boy and she's a tiny thing. But he wont mess with her if ya know what I mean.
