It's a good advertising campaign to say the least. The commercials I've seen depict the Mercury and Yamaha's as being less of motors. We sell all of the brands except Honda and their all good motors.

RudeZ20 - regarding Southern Indiana Marine, are they reputable for working on Evinrudes?

    Hey Chub

That is a question I cannot answer. I have not had any issues with mine to where I had to take it in. I know Todd, the Lead Mechanic @ SouthernIndiana Marine, programmed mine for the XD100 oil. I bought my boat from them due to the service they have provided a buddy of mine. They seem to know their SH_T and always got his boat in and out in the time he needed it to be. I would recommend them to anyone as to my dealings with them. I have purchased a boat new from another company in Louisville that I would not send my worst enemy to. Best idea to do would be to call over there and ask for Todd and just talk with him about what issues you are having. Good Luck and I'll see ya on the water.

I put a new 225 etec on my 1995 Hydra Sport and I am very happy with it. I am running a 28 pitch prop Raker II on it. I only have about 12 hours on it and haven't got it set up right yet but it is going to run well. I have GPS it at 74 mph but the bow is still to low. Had to hyd steering on it because you could not turn it for the tork. I don't expect to out run everyone but I can get there not to far behind them.

I hope you did notice that they compared it to a 4 stroke. Ok Evinrude put it up against an Optimax and a hpdi V-max. Then toot your horn if you still can

Thanks for everyone's response, Have always been a jonrude fan of the old 2 strokes late 80's 90's for the dependability. My 93 silver star 150 has held up well since 93 so I thought I wouild look into the 150 HO. Thanks again.

    RE: E-Tec

I have a Z20 equipped with the Etec 225 HO. It was actually one of the 2 US Bank FLW tour boats last year. I have had absolutely no issues with mine. Well outside of the fact that I do not know exactly how to set it up after putting the 10" jack plate on it. Biut I guess I will figure that out in time also. I have not heard anything about the lower units being faulty as mentioned in the previous port. I guess any motor or lower unit can blow up if you go beyond the recommended RPM's for that motor. Mine runs at WOT around 5200. It will push my Z20 about 71 MPH and that is fast enough for me. I bought the Ranger for the ride not the speed. I had my E-Tec programmed to use the XD100 oil instead of the 50 to 1 ratio oil. It uses half the amount of oil but the oil is little more expensive ($35.00 a gallon or so). I had heard issues about the H.O's losing compression after about a year or so but the mechanic that looked at mine (Todd from So. In. Marine) said the compression was still good. So that could be hear say also. As far as maintenance on the motor. You do it all (i.e winterizing or backflushign the motor), unless it is something internal. If you have any other questions you can email @ [email protected].

Good luck fishing and be careful,

    RE: E-Tec

Im sure some of the dealers will chime in on this one but here is my take straight from the horses mouth. I like e-rude, thats what I run right now, but as far as the etecs.... I would wait a little while before I bought one, let them get their lower unit problems ironed out. I talked to a ranger/evinrude pro last week and he has blown a etec lower unit at each of the FLW events this year, three event, three trashed lower units. He says the motor is the strongest running motor he has ever owned, and I can verify b/c his z20 was rippin up the lake past me, but I would wait a little while until they get a little stronger lower unit in them, its my understanding they are working to iron out the issues
