LAST EDITED ON Mar-29-06 AT 07:58PM (EST)[p]The rule says that the co-angler cannot run the big engine(except to load the boat and medical emergency)...there are no if's, maybe's, we didn't mean to do it, we weren't looking for fish etc...exceptions in the rule. It is a cut and dried rule to keep the pro's from having an advantage over their competitors that do not have an amatuer to practice with them...ie...looking for bedding fish and able to cover more ground than with a lone competitor with only a trolling motor to use.
For the record: I really hated to see this happen to KVD. I worked with him at two shows this year and got to spend a bit of one on one with him and he is not only one of the best pro anglers (if not the best), he is really a nice fellow. But the fact is a rule is a rule...there can't be any exceptions to a cut and dried rule like this..no matter if you meant to do it or not. When you start making exceptions to rules, you have to make exceptions for everyone. I have total faith KVD will overcome this setback..he is too good not to.
