    Below Nolin Dam

Anyone ever fished below the dam at Nolin? I was thinking about making a trip and exploring/fishing the river to where it meets the Green River.

Anyone have any experience or tips?

    Thank You!

fished the tailwaters area last friday. It was pretty cool that day not much of a bite. Caught two small SM and a nice little trout. The trout were stacked up right at the face of the dam. Beautiful area down there, loved the scenery.

I will have to try it. I have fished the lake for so many yrs without going down there that I just have to do it at least once.

    Thanks for the reply.

    I'm from Bardstown too.

Dubya, You can put a boat in at the Brownsville ramp on the river and it's only about 2 miles down stream to the mouth of the Nolin. I've only been up in the Nolin about a half mile once. They were running the water and it was kinda hairy dodging all the trees and stick ups.

I think Brutus is talking about the Houchens Ferry ramp so you don't get confused because if you put in at the ramp under the bridge that crosses Green River "Brownsville city park ramp" you won't be able to make it up to the mouth of Nolin because of Lock 6. Also be careful not to go to far down rive if you use the Houchens Ferry ramp or you'll end up over the Lock 6 dam.

Wish I could offer you some advice on where to fish but about all my fishing is done around the spillway and I plan on giving it a try sometime today. I will tell you this though there are good numbers of Catfish, Crappie, Trout, Walleye and Whites in the river.

    Good luck

What would be a decent mixed bag of lures to target multiple species down there? Thinking of heading out that way myself. I am especially intersted in targeting whites and walleyes.
    Thanks, Brian.

You cann't go wrong with white curly tail grubs ,roostertails and smaller crankbaits for them when they are bitting. I made it to the spillway this morning and didn't do any good. It was full of shad and trout and you couldn't pitch any kind of bait in the water without one or the other grabing it. I'm sure the "good fish" are there but they didn't have a chance to even look at any kind of bait. I even cut up some shad for bait that I had caught and guess what I caught on it, more shad LOL
