Taylorsville Lake

Yeah, I've heard bad things about Taylorsville... we had originally planned on going to Guist - but you can't reserve boats there over the phone - you have to drive and hope you can get a boat to rent. At Taylorsville, I was able to reserve a boat over the phone, so we're for sure we'll have one. We have to rent a boat...

Supposedly at Guist, on the day we want to go, the guy at the marina said they anticipated it being pretty crowded...

I don't know, maybe since they are so close to one another, I could try Guist first and if we're able to rent the two boats we need, stay there, and if not, just head over to Taylorsville. Is Taylorsville really that bad as far as catchin' fish goes? Why? Pressure?

It gets hammered by tournaments almost every day of the week. Those bass have seen every luer made atleast four times. Then add all of the pleasure boaters and you got a bad mix. It's close proxcility to Louisville has lured everyone with a canoe or larger to slam the lake. The last time I went was Labor Day 2004 and it took me an hour to get my baot in the water and it got worse from there. Have you ever seen that sceen in "Jaws" where they have all those boats in the water out fishing for the shark hoping to cash in on the bounty. Well it was just like that... people everywhere bumping into each other, cussing and yelling. I know that it was a major recreational weekend but good lord.... I have not been back since and don't plan on going. My brother-in-law has fished it in the past and says that there are some nice fish in the lake, but they are VERY dificult to catch.

I fish Guist about once a month when the weather and water level is suitable. It too gets alot of presure, but no where near the presure of T-ville. There are some really nice fish in the lake as well, with 5#'ers taken frequently. You might want to give it a try if unless you put down a deposit on the boats at T-ville.

No, I haven't put a deposit down, just my name. That's what was kinda weird about Guist - I called the guy last week and told him I'd call back to reserve the boats (just a couple jon boats) and he said "okay". Then, I call yesterday and he says we gotta be there to reserve the boat. I was willing to give him my CC# over the phone to go ahead and pay for them, but he said they don't do that... that's why I looked into T-ville.

I'm meetin' a couple buddies from Lexington (I'm in Louisville) and we were planning on fishing Guist at first, then the whole boat screw up... now I'm thinking about trying Guist in the early morning, and if it works out, great, if not, go over to T-ville. That may be the best battle plan. It would be nice to catch a few fish! :)

Ahh yes, you have discovered the one drawback to Guist... The dunderheads that run the marina. I called earlier today to check on lake conditions and you would have thought that I was asking the woman who answered the phone for her credit card number. Strange way of running buisness. Last year when the water was extreemly low the ramp was in very bad condition and they didnt warn people about the underwater hazards at the ramp. They definately need to work on the public relations aspect of their operation.

Yeah, well, I didn't want to come out and say it - but the lady I've talked to there I basically had the same "pleasant style" of conversation with. The guy that I've talked to has been pretty helpful though. I just called a little while ago and talked to the lady to find out what time they opened on Sunday - she said 5 a.m., I told her my situation and she responded that there's a couple Ts on Sunday and that a bunch of people have been calling about the boats and that basically the implication was that if we wanted to rent boats, we better be there super early.

Well, that cuts into my Saturday night bourbon time :) I can get up early, like, 6am to go there, but I ain't even gonna try a 4am wake up just for meetin' up with friends for a casual fishin' trip! I'd do that for a tournament or a long drive, but not for what we're doin' on Sunday... I'm thinkin' we'll just bite the bullet and do our best on Tville (though after looking at the fishing forecast on the KDFW website there's no mention of largemouths there - which is what I was hoping to fish for). And maybe next trip go to Herrington Lake (still good for the Louisville - Lexington connection), they have boat rentals there too. Maybe look into Nolin and Rough for times I'll be goin' by myself, see if they have boat rentals too. Try out Guist on a weekday when it isn't as busy.

Man, I tell ya'll what... sure must be nice to own a boat! Makes it much easier! I'm gonna start the "Jason needs a boat fund" REAL soon! :) LOL!

i went yesterday and water was around 50-55 in creeks and i caught 1 fish in 3 hours

This may not help in your current situation but fishing Taylorsville at night is a great time to catch some fish. I have been fishing there at night for 4 (usually from dusk to about 3:00 am) and have caught anywhere from 10 fish to 50 or 60. Now, if you are targeting bass then this is not the thing to but if you just want to catch some fish then this is a good time. We usually catch whites, crappie, and catfish and with little to no boat traffic it is a great time to fish.

IVE BEEN FISHING T-VILLE FOUR ABOUT 4 YEARS NOW AND I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE POSTS ABOUT THE TRAFFIC AND FISHING PRESSURE THE LAKE RECEIVES. AS FAR AS BASS GO IN MY OPINION THE LAKE IS ON THE UPSWING. WATCHING THE TOURNAMENT RESULTS, TALKING TO PEOPLE, AND WITH THE EXPERIENCES IVE HAD IN THE LAST YEAR OR SO IT SEEMS THE LAKE MIGHT JUST BE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. HOW LONG IT WILL LAST, WHO KNOWS? ALL LAKES GO THROUGH THEIR CYCLES . IN YEARS PAST IN THE BIGGER TOURNAMENTS IF YOU HAD A FISH OR TWO YOU WERE FEELING PRETTY GOOD, IN 2005 I SAW THAT CHANGE. I CAN THINK OF AT LEAST THREE TOURNAMENTS LAST YEAR WERE I BROUGHT 5 FISH TO THE SCALES AND IT DIDNT GET THE JOB DONE. AS FAR AS THE FISHING IS GOING RIGHT NOW, WATER TEMPS ARE IN THE LOW 50'S AND LAKE IS OVERFLOWING WITH 4 TO 5 INCH SHAD. I HAD TWO OVER 4 POUNDS MONDAY EVENING.
