    Barren Hybrids

Going to Barren next weekend for a Bass Tourney on Sunday. I have caught many stripers but never a Hybrid. Wondering if anyone has had any luck with the night bite for Hybrids yet at Barren. Thought about putting it just before dark on Friday to try my luck for a couple of hours before 2 full days chasing the Greenfish Sat and Sun. If no night bite then any help on day bite to try to hook one of these Brutes is most appreciated as well.

    No Hybrids

I take it by the Huge amounts of reply's I got from this post that the Hybrid Fishing is outstanding and I can expect to catch several 10 pounders Friday night. I may want to cancel this part of my trip for fear of catching so many that I may get severe cramps in my arms, shoulders, wrist and hands and not be able to catch any greenfish on the weekend.

I dont know much about "fishing" for hybrids but I have caught a bunch of them the last three times I have been bass fishing at Barren.

    RE: Barren Hybrids

Typically hybrids are an open water scavenger and typical bass techniqes of fishing shore structure don't work. I have never caught a hybrid at Barren within 50 feet of the shore. Big ones are normally found near the dam or in the straight between the two islands between the state park and the narrows. I have never fished the spring patteren, juss summer, so it may change in the spring, I dont know. I know they have a "spawning run", albeit hybrids lack the ability to produce offspring.

I'll be goin' down Friday night as well. But I'll be targeting hybrids. I haven't heard any news (good or bad). If they are "on" we'll have some real fun. Shoot me an e-mail & maybe we'll see each other down there. [email protected]

    RE: Bassman

I have caught several and seen a lot of activity around the Narrows boat dock area at night, in early spring. Also, in the day time look around the island areas, between the islands and on the back side of them. From here to the dam should be good places to start. Keep an eye out for birds, if you see birds that are on the water feeding watch your graph around them for shad or hybrids they will probably both be in the area. Bucktail jigs, spoons, topwater, crankbaits can be the ticket. Find the fish and see what they want they can be very picky this time of year but once you figured it out you can load the boat in a hurry.

    RE: Barren Hybrids

The hybrids will often be near the shore at night due to herding bait fish into the shallows or against bluffs. This is what caused them to go into the jumps. Areas around the dam, Narrows, and Bailey's Point can all produce. I don't know what the bite is like at this particular time though. Listen for sounds like someone throwing bricks into the water from the top of a bluff. The deeper the "Whoosh", the bigger the hybrid!!! It will be mid/late April before I get to go. Good luck.

    RE: No Hybrids

Fished Barren on 4/2/06- caught 2 Hybrids. 1 @ 11lbs and another @ 20lbs on a chartreuse rogue jerkbait about 100yrds North of Hog Pen along the Eastern bank. The Hybrids were STACKED UP in the area. Since I am a bass fisherman I moved immediately, but those 2 fish were caught in 4 casts. The water temp was 58. If anyone heads to that area and the wind is blowing against the eastern bank and you are throwing a suspending jerkbait...hold on.

    Hybrids

You sure it went 20, the state record is 20.8. That's a heck of a fish! Where do you guys think the next state record hybrid will come from? I'm positive there are some swimming around in herrington. Herrington or the Ohio River would get my vote.
