    Spring Break Fishing Info Needed

Taking my 11 year old son out this week for some spring break fishing fun. Probably going to Lake Cumberland to see if we can catch&release ANYTHING that will bite. I bass fish but I want to make sure he has some action if possible. Any help on what to do to catch some crappie or bluegill would be greatly appreciated. email address is [email protected]

    THANKS.

That's cool your son caught some fish I'm glad. Also to Art, there aren't any yellow bass in Cumberland as far as I know. Are they stocking them in the lake, man I hope not that is one useless fish.

Whoops, didn't know that. I was just giving my strategy that I use on Ky Lake for "anything that will bite" days.

RE: Spring Break Fishing Info Needed

Took my 11 year old son yesterday to C-Land and just thought I would provide a report on what we did. The objective was to just catch something, anything.

It started to rain around 10AM and rained for about 4 hours then stayed cloudy but dry until around 6:30pm when we took out. Water temp was 54-59. Most of the lake was really clear with some stained water in the heads of the creeks. We caught about 20 fish (crappie, bass and bluegill) on minnows. My son had a really good time even though we only had 4 keeper crappie. My son caught 3 of them including the biggest which measured 15". We also lost a couple really nice keepers. It seemed like once the rain started the bite slowed for us. Most of our action was early.

Just take some minnows and fish your bass spots. Right now, I think you could catch about anything with live bait! The fish are active!!!

Oh yeah, be sure and use the small size minnows. Normally I take about 6 dozen or more small minnows and can use them all up in a few hours. Bluegill will readily eat a small minnow, and if you get into a school of yellow bass you'll burn 'em up quick!!! The channel cats might be starting on their feeding binge before the spawn, so you might try a couple of riprap banks just in case!
