Put in at the marina arround 11:30 Sunday morning (4-2-06). Water was the normal early spring brown, temps rainging from 55.3 in the lower lake to 57.1 in the upper reaches of the creek arms. The lake is back to the normal level providing full access to the launching ramp. The lake was very crowded due to normal trafic as well as two tournaments.
Started off fishing Guist Creek propper north of the Benson Pike road. Managed to catch one 2-3# hybred on a Texas rigged lizzard up against the bank. Threw everything I had attempting to entice the largemouths to bite to no avail. Fished the creek arm for another 2 1/2 hours without a bite. I did see one of the boats in the tournament land what appeared to be a 3# LM in arround 8 ft of water. Couldn't identify what they were throwing from my vantage point, but assume it was either plastics or a jig based on their presentation (pitching).
Finished the day fishing the main lake down by the dam without any action. The wind picked up which prompted us to end the day.
I did talk to several people through the day and very few of them had managed to land anything worth mentioning. As we were taking out I talked to a couple of the guys fishing the tournaments and they said that it only took 3 fish to win (no mention of weight). Most of the guys had come up empty.
Fishing should pick up in the next few weeks as the water warms and the fish move up. If anyone fishes the lake anytime soon please post your results, interested in seeing if last years drought had any impact of the fishery.
Keep on chuckin'
I had about the same results... fished both Saturday and Sunday, and caught one baby largemouth on a little crankbait on Sunday. Had fun though both days! :)
