This is something that works for me .Not saying it's 100% fool proof but after many years of fishing , this is the best I've found for new line on a reel .I got it 3rd hand.A friend of mine got it from Bill Dance's show, so here goes.........Begin by running the line through the 2nd guide above the reel and use a loop knot to secure the line to the spool . Hold the spool upright (with a pencil or whatever your preference is )like you would with a baitcaster EXCEPT that you take the line off the bottom of the spool .Not complicated and pretty effective .Hope it works out for you .
