Spanky --heading that way next Monday. Were Crappie hitting minnows? And did you throw any small jigs thier way?

We just got back from a trip to Blood River. We were there Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It was one of the best trips we had lately. We averageed between 30 and 40 good keepers a day. Most of the crappie we caught were very shallow. In the 1 to 2 foot range. We did catch some in the channels (8-15') but they didn't seem to have the size to them.

Me and a few friends are heading down there this weekend. Were they on brushpiles and stakebeds or were they on structure? Any advice would be hugely appreciated since none of us have ever been there. Thanks in advance.
My buddy just went today. They caught their limits off of sandbars near the channel. He said their tails were red from nesting. I sure wish I didn't have to work today!
We caught a few throwing a jig but mainly they were hitting the minnows. We take our own minnows when we go down there and they hit the smaller ones better. We ran out on Saturday and had to buy some but all they had were medium to big ones. We didn't catch as many on those. We were fishing around any kind of brush or stake beds we could find.
The Crappie are definitely on fire down here now....if you Crappie folks want to fill your livewells now is the time.

Dave? Are the crappie hitting as well up around Johnathon Creek as they are being reported South (Blood River area)?
I haven't had any reports specifically on Jonathan Creek but some of my Crappie guide friends are limiting out by 9:00 most mornings up here on the north end. From the reports I have been hearing and folks I have been talking to they are eating just about anywhere right now...even folks bank fishing are catching lots of them....saw two guys today cleaning 35 they got this morning and they were fishing from the bank on N. Barkley.
