I sat in on that committee meeting and I wonder more about how they are going to keep those ramps in good shape and where's the money going to come from.
Don't get me wrong, I'll take advantage of free ramp service, but somebody's got to pay for it.

House Bill 632 passed and is awiating the Govoner's signature.
This bill will prohibit ramp fees at state parks.
Wonder if they are going to give refunds for those that boght an annual pass?

I don't know but I would think that some of the state tax monies that all of us keep dishing out would cover maintenance of the ramps.
I hope they don`t have any money to spend if they spend it like the Corps of Engineers did at Rough River Lake. They built the big concrete docks next to the ramps. They look like big burial vaults and can only be use for a short time when the lake level is just right. What a waste of money,JMHO. Tom
I can tell you what's going to happen. Money will not be put into the budget for repair for years and years...and then the ramps will be in horrible shape, of which we will have to suffer though. Then we will have to complain and complain to our legislators until the squeeky wheel gets the grease. And then the process will start over again...and again...
I could be wrong, and I hope I am, but I don't think in the end that it's going to be a good thing.
kreyfish you might be right but I have to wonder where all of the tax money goes when I buy my license each year on my boat. The tax on gas I buy for my boat. And you and I know theres lots of water craft out there.
I think I would like to know where that money realy does go.
Anybody actually know where the money goes that we have been paying for years at all of the ramps? It sure isn't going to the ramps themselves. I have been fishing Corp type lakes for over 15 years and all of the ramps look the same to me with the exception of Nolin at Moutadier---they did fix that one a little better. What about Barren State Ramp-----it hasn't changed since they built the lake. The lakes are not getting that much done---so where is the money going?
Mark that would be the General Fund. That way they can hide it away an do with it what they want.
When will this take effect?
I have heard of that, but what about the signs that say the "money is staying to fix up this area" Guessing that's BS too???? LOL!!!!
It was an interesting committee meeting to say the least. Where does the money go? That is a good question that no one could quite answer . No one could say how much money, exactly, was brought in...and how much, exactly, was spent on ramp up keep. It's not the legislature's fault...but no one could answer their questions about where the money was going.
It started out by being legislation that would give the tournament guys a break on the ramp fees and then it some how morphed into dropping the ramp fees altogether for everyone. We shall see how it works out....but I'm rather skeptical about future ramp up keep.
LAST EDITED ON Apr-14-06 AT 09:16PM (EST)[p]I dont know where the money goes but I know they need to get bigger boxes for the envelopes. Twice this year and at least ten times that I saw last year there were envelopes with money in it lying all around the box because it was full. Several times there was no envelopes to put your money in.I don't mind paying a ramp fee I just don't like seeing mine or someone's money lying on the ground. Would someone tell me what someone is supposed to do if there or no envelopes or no room to put money in the box. I am sure they came to fish or ski not to oversee the ramp fee box or wonder if they will have a ticket when they get back.
Just my $0.02
