Sonar-Fishfinders

New at fishing and need advise. Small budget and would like to get a good fishfinder. Checking Bass Pro and Cabela's, there are a bunch to choose from. Would purchase black/white due to lower cost. Considering Lowrance X96, Eagle FishMark 480 or 320 and Bottom Line Tournament 320 or 480 Max. Bottom Line looks good to me as it has very few buttons. What do you think would be the best for the money ? All help appreciated and thanks in advance. Newguy

I have a eagle fish mark 320 I would sell for $90.00. It's a great depth finder. The only reason I'm selling it,Is because I bought a new lowrance x-125. I have a lms-480 in dash on my triton and now a x-125 up on the front of my boat. Let me know if you might want it. I don't really care if i sell it or not, might need a backup one day.

I recommend the Eagle series. They are made by Lowrance but usually have a lower cost. Just remember the higer resolution on the screen, the more detailed your marking will be.

Eagle Fishmark 320, I think black and white has more definition than color. Great fish arches at a low price.

Keep in mind that Eagle is made by Lowrance. I have two Lowrance units on my boat. Both are B&W. They are reliable and consistantly do what I want them to do. I had a low cost Hummingbird years ago and I like these better.

I have a Eagle Fishmark 320 I got at Bass Pro on sale for $139.99 and it was well worth the money. Best "cheap" graph I ever bought. One small problem---temp reading takes a little while to show accurate reading. I have the transducer with built in temp sensor mounted on my trolling motor. So, it reads air temp and then, when you stick it in the water, it takes a while to read correctly. Not a big deal--more of an inconvenience then a problem.

Received the Humminbird Matrix 17 for Christmas. Just recently got the transducer mounted and I love it. I too have a very small budget. I think this was in the $150-170 range. It has a wide screen, lots of accessories to add to it when $$$ is avaliable. It is also GPS ready. I mounted this on the console. I really like it.

I also just purchased a Lowrance X46 (or 47?) for the front of the boat. It was $130. Small screen, good picture, very sensitve.

Hey, Just recently bought a new color Lowarance Color X102 or something like that. It is well worth the money... Color is the only way to go. Had a pin point and hated it... couuldn't see it in the sun at all....

I too have been looking to buy a fish finder, and I'm pretty new to fishin' as well. I've looked at the Humminbird® PiranhaMAX10 Portable Fishfinder from BPShops. I'm thinking of going portable b/c I don't own a boat and have to rent them. It's about $120 and they have 3 of 'em at the BPShop over in Clarksville.

That's what I'm lookin' at... hope it helps. Any advice I'd love to hear as well!

I've owned a Lowrance X3 since they first came out back in the eighties and transferred it from two diferent boats. I also bought a Lowrance x22 to put on my trolling motor which has been a really good little graph. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, just a basic, good fishfinder and they are relatively cheap; if you can still find them somewhere. I've also heard good things about the Eagle Fishmark and Fish Elite series although you're talking quite a bit more for those.
