Cumberland Stripers and Walleye last night

[font size="1" color="#FF0000"]LAST EDITED ON Apr-15-06 AT 11:22AM (EST)[/font][p]Fished lower end. Water temps 58-61 in a creek we tried. Shad in around midnight and 1st striper around 1. The two boats ended up with 7 stripers(largest 28 inches) and two walleyes(largest a fat 6lbs 5 oz that had 12 shad in its stomach). Baits ranged from slivers to Bombers to jointed redfins. Best bite seemed to be subsurface on dark banks. Lost 6 other stripers and several walleye gave us the "seeya later" routine. Definetely walleyes were more active than the stripers.

[font size="1" color="#FF0000"]LAST EDITED ON Apr-17-06 AT 06:28PM (EST)[/font][p]I'll be fishing Thursday night. I don't really know what i'm doing. This will be my third night trip. The first I caught 4 walleye and a 4 1/2 lb largemouth bass. The second trip I caught nothing. I had walleye come up and were hitting all around us but I could not get one to hit my lure. Fished redfins both days. I'm staying at the lost lodge on Pitman. If anyone has anytips that they don't want to post email me at [email protected]. I'll be happy to call or email a report back. Also, are there any internet hotspots in Somerset where I can log in to check reports and report back? How is the debris A) on the lake and b) in the creeks? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Find a bluff that is close to the main channel. Parallel cast the bluff. You want your plug to land within 2 feet of the bank. Right at the water/bluff edge is better. Slow wake the red fin back to the boat. Right now, the alewifes and stripers can come up at any time. You might find the alewifes up soon after dark, and the stripers sometime later. Or the stripers may move in and out all night. Listen for the alewifes. They'll sound like small waves running the bank or someone throwing a handful of small pebbles into the water. Check your maps ahead of time and locate several possible areas before you head out. You may end up hitting several areas before you find a good bank, or you might luck out and find a good bank first thing. Good luck!

There should be some stripers in Pittman right now. If the redfin doesn't do it for you, try a Bomber Long A or a Sliver. Some nights they just don't want a surface plug. As Andrew mentioned timing can also be a factor. You can actually be in the right spot, but 2 hours too early. Try the midnight to 6am thing, since you don't have to drive anyways. Also as Andrew stated, you cannot get your bait too close to the bank, but 3 feet away is WAY too far.
