Sunglasses for Fishing...Solar Bats

How many of you use sunglasses to see in the water? do you use Solar Bats? What brands...for the best money are best? Or is it even necessary?

I have some solar-bats(cheaper style) but I love them. I also have some Oakleys that were high dollar and I prefer my cheaper solar-bats over them anyday! They really make a difference, seeing those stumps in the water and great for sight fishing, but I mainly use mine for looking for not so visible structure.

strike king camo from Wal-mart is what I have now. I use them most everytime I go to the water. I think it makes a big difference in what I can see in the water.

Is there really a difference in the Solar Bat brand and a say a "Wallyworld" brand?

Had a pair of solar bats and loved the vision out of them. However the ear pieces came off and they did scratch up pretty easy. Have a pair of Bolle now that I caught on sale for 70 bucks down from 100. They are awesome and I was looking at stuff down 8 to 10 feet at Cumberland the other day. I was surprised but the high dollar ones are better than the middle of the road stuff. I guess you do at times get what you pay for. Solar bats are a good brand though, you will like them.

Like a lot of things, you get what you pay for. I have used "cheap" polarized glasses before,and now use more expensvie Action Optics. They are a lot more comforatble than cheaper ones. Also, the quality of lens if better and more protective for you eyes than cheaper ones. The comfort alone is worth the money. Cheaper ones do work, i just prefer middle of the Road as far as expense. Try some "nicer" ones one, see if you can tell the difference.

I have always used the wally world specials and theys have been fine. I have lost some and broken some and all i do is spend less than $20 to get a new pair. I just bought some solar bats from wally world and love them as well. good luck

For those of you who use Solar Bats, If you have any problems just contact them and send the glasses back. I have done this twice and they have replaced mine for little or no cost.

OK guys.... I can tell you this for sure! I have contacted Solar Bat... we are a Solar Bat dealer... so I can tell you for SURE!!the lens in the walmart glasses are the SAME lens that are in there mid price glasses that being the 50-60 dollar pairs... NOW the HIGH dollar sunglasses that they make the ones say 99 and up... have the SAME polarization... the difference is in how the lens is bent... the high dollar glasses you can see in the water just the same as the cheaper ones its just that the high dollar pair are made so that the vision is not as distorted....I have had all three the walmart pair a 70 dollar set and a high dollar pair and they all worked GREAT best sunglasses to see down in the water on the market BAR NONE!! the only thing I seen differnet is more money you get a more comfortable pair of glasses.. They seem lighter and feel better on your nose... so as far as more money getting you to see better down in the water thats just not true... just more comfortable

I have always used the ones sold at Wal Mart, whether they were strike king, or solar bats. Right now I have some solar bats I bought last fall. They work very well.

However, I recently cashed in my bass pro points and purchased a pair of Costa Del Mar... I would never spend that much money on sunglasses, but as free ... not so bad. But anyway, they are much, much better than my solar bats. Down at KY and Barkley, where the water is no where near as clear as the eastern lakes, I am able to see much deeper, and clearer. I've even seen for the first time a muscle moving along the bottom of the bay.

Now I still wear my solar bats in low light, because they have the yellow lenses, but I wear the costa Del Mars in the bright sunshine.

Anyway, the amazing thing was while shopping for these glasses, I tried on all the different types and brands. I think the most important things are these:

1) FIT... why buy something that doesn't fit well.

2) Polarization and lense production process.

3) Scratch resistance... I hate to buy something and mess it up with scratches.

Just me though.

Hey Mustang,

I just recently got a pair of H30 (fishermans package) they are pretty cool. 3 different colors of interchangeable lenses for different light conditions. Even the yellow glasses are polarized.
