CARP ON THE BANK AND BASS

Is it just me or does anyone have trouble catching bass on a bank where the carp are rolling? Is there any bass there or do they leave?

Decker, you are very observant! For years, I have been trying to tell my fishing partner that there is no sense fishing where the carp are splashing because we never catch any bass there. However, in his defense, I have heard other people say AND WRITE that you should fish were the carp are because the stuff they stir up attracts bait fish which attract bass. It has just never worked for me. It will be interesting to see what others have to say.

I guess they could pop up crawfish or bait fish but I have never caught a bass around them.

I agree with Grumpy I'll move everytime. I'll tell you a fish that's worse than carp is them ole gar. I have really been on some good fish at Cumberland and I mean some good smallmouth. Went back to that area over the weekend and caught some however the gar moved in there thick and guess what, that was the end of that. I hate gar, I wish the bow fisherman would kill'em all.

one of the first tournaments I ever won was on the Ohio river . i was flipping in the mud line created by the carp rolling. the mama bass were using the mud line as a shield for their nests.
last year I encountered a bunch rolling up peter creek at barren and i started throwing a 5 shad rap and caught 6 keeps on one muddy flat.

I've never had any luck when the carp started rolling. Finally found some fish on laurel this past week and when i went back over the weekend couldn't boat a fish but carp were wreaking havoc. Do they mess up spawning fish that are up shallow and push them back to deeper water?
