Went to Cumberland over the weekend. I went with 10 buddies, most of them fraternity brothers from college. We gathered to celebrate the upcoming wedding of one in the group (bachelor party). So fishing wasn't the only focus. We only trolled on day for about 2 hrs. I caught 14 shad the night before, slept in late and got on the water about noon. We trolled for about 2 1/2 hrs and picked up a 3 lb smallie and a 9 lb rock. We also tried to cast top water the first night but the debris was heavy where we went making it difficult to fish. We picked up a 3 lb walleye. Only heard about 6 striper blow ups-all night. We just wasn't in the right spot. I will say a good time was had by all and i did catch my first rock of the year. The fish came on a noodle line with about 10 ft of line and an 1/8 oz sinker.
The noodle line is something i came up with in place of balloon lines. I got the idea from jug fishing guys. I didn't like the balloon lines but wanted a float to run straight behind the boat and not interfere with my boards. I usually run 4 boards and 2 noodle lines. The noodle is simply a fun noodle that kids play with in the pool. You cut it about 6 to 8 inches and cut a wooden rod to put in the middle. Then you screw in eyelets on each end and attached a swivel on one end and a release on the other. I used the same swivel and release that is on my offshore planner boards. They work great.
The trolling was done in fishing creek. If I was going next weekend at night around conley, I would try the bluffs in white oak or the lake around shinbone or bluff walls up or down lake from white oak. I found walleye coming up everywhere i went, I'm just not good at catching them. Good luck.
