    Kincaid, and other NKY lakes?

    Hey guy's!
I have been living in Florence for 8 years and
never found the time to come over to Kincaid
for a day or two and do some fishing. However,
each year I read that Kincaid (& Malone) are
two of the states best lakes for catching larger
Largemouth. Currently, I have a visitor coming
over from Japan and he wants to check out fishing
in the US. He fishes for Bass over there but the
enviornment is much different. Anyway he will be
here for only a short period so I have NO time to take
him to on a multi day trip. (Barkley or Patoka etc..)

Please let me know how thing's are going on Kincaid...
I have heard that using LIVE bait is an absolute riot!
(I have never used live bait for him...I would try it...)

    Some General Questions I have:
» What are some general patterns for mid~late April that
tend to boat a few fish?
» what is the best artificial lures..Crank, Sinner, Plaistics etc...
» What kind of structure does kincaid have?
» Are there any motor limits?
» How about any of the other NKY lakes? Williamstown, Boltz,
    BullockPen?
    Anything else worth knowing?

    Thanks for your help?

Kincaid is tough. That is the only way to say it. Very, very seldom will you catch a bunch of fish. You can catch a monster but it is hard. If you are looking to fish and catch some and have a good time I would suggest somewhere else. IF you are determined to go to Kincaid, the jig is usually where its at. Lots of grass, lots of grass and wood. Fish are starting to nest now. A little early compared to my experience there but its 68-70 degrees. Fished it last week for a few hours. Between 3 of us on 2 boats I was the only one to catch a keeper. Nothing over 10hp. That is another irritating thing about it. I would be happy to help you any way way I can. Certian banks are better than others but never very predictable.

    Thanks Toby,
What makes this lake so tough anyway?
Is it under water structure? or alot of it? hard to detect the fish? Alot of pressure?

I have always heard folks state this same thing...I never really understood why a "fertile" lake would not have it share of easy small ones...that will eat any thing..

Can you use a large motor and only idle?

RE: Kincaid, and other NKY lakes?

Last year, we had a small club tournament on Kincaid just about this time of year. The only fish weighed in belonged to my partner and me. We had two 5 pounders and a 3 1/2, all on Texas rigged lizards dragged slooooow across a large flat. Two years ago, he and I had five fish that went 17 1/2, all on either a jig and pig or a large single Colorado spinnerbait. Year in and year out, those are the two baits that produce the most trophies from this lake.
There is a 10 horse limit on the lake. The water is very stained and if there has been any recent rain, it turns into a mudhole really quick. That's why, in my opinion, sound and vibration are so critical there. There are plenty of laydowns and some standing timber to pitch to. Also a good number of docks. I would concentrate on the baits mentioned above, stay in the lower end of the lake, and fish very slowly and deliberately. Good luck!!

    Hairball,
Thanks for the responce. I could handle a day like that..
If the water is very stained...does it impact the bite much?

If the water looks like chocolate milk, I wouldn't waste my time there. If there has been a lot of rain right before you go, you might want to consider Boltz Lake in Dry Ridge. Not a lot of big ones there, but if they're hitting cranks, you can have a lot of fun catching 12" fish all day. Bagley Honey Bs, Mann's Baby 1 Minus and Bomber 3As (in the dark brown crawdad pattern) can all produce a lot of fish. Oh yeah, if it's a bluebird sky kinda day, throw a shallow running chrome crank.

RE: Kincaid, and other NKY lakes?

Fished there last weekend. Club had a tourament had 48 members only 5 caught fish, 8 fish total. Yhey had shocked the lake the week before.

Though it can be a great lake. Have had a few 7-8 lbs. and to many 4-6 lbs. to count from this lake. Some days you can get 25-30 lbs in just a couple hours. Weekends get to much pressure, very very slow.

Just like fishing anywhere the right place, at the right time, with the right bait and this lake can be the best.

Have caought fish on about everything in the box, thougn i seldom through fish worms or jigs. This time of year in NKY I would stick with Elmer Davis. It's a better spring lake.

I only fished there one day and got a 6lb beauty on a 10" purple curlytail worm. Only trolling motors allowed.
