Cheaters Caught on Barkley!!!

I really hate to post this, but I think it should be. Friday, a friend of mine found a basket with four bass from about five pounds to keeper size tied off to a dock. Fish and Wildlife officials were called, and they marked and took pictures of the fish. Saturday morning, they were waiting in the woods with video cameras and got them on tape retrieving the fish. Officials got busy and figured out what tournament they were fishing, and waited for them at weigh-in. I don't know what they were charged with, but the Department confiscated their twenty one foot bass boat. These fools couldn't even cheat good enough to get a check. A big thank you to the Kentucky Department of Fish an Wildlife. Good job guys!

Glad to see someone got caught, now hang them from a tree and buggy whip them with a 10' FNF rod, take their boat and all their equipment away, post their names and pictures all over the area so that everyone knows. I have said it on this site before and will say it again. With the payouts getting so large on the big tourneys and even the little ones paying sometimes 20-50 times the entry fee, cheating will happen. Cheating happens in every sport imaginable to one extent or another. Unless you put a camera on each and every boat there is no way for all tourneys to be 100% accurate all the time. This is the one main reason that I don't fish more tournaments, plus the fact that I ##### at fishing. I have no problem donating my entry fee to the winner for I love to compete but want to make sure everyone is on a level playing ground. Ky and Barkley has SO MUCH WATER that I wonder what the percentage of cheating really goes on during all tourneys, big and small. Hell, I would bet some guys cheat in the smaller tourneys for the bragging rights of the win more than the small winners check. Just venting on the topic, for I believe the MAJORITY of the fishermen I have met are as honest as the day is long. It is this Minority pieces of trash that is the problem. As the post said, these same 2 won a big tourney recently, how much money did they win? A couple of guys winning a good tourney here and there plus some smaller ones can easily pick up a couple of thousand a month or more. With that kind of money, how much cheating is going on for we have all read post after post of cages found at various lakes across the state. Makes me wonder??

It was the Relay for Life T. The guy that discovered the basket was not fishing. He was just on the dock at a small marina. He told me this morning, there was another piece of rope on the same dock that has been cut. He first saw it about a month ago. These guys won a major T about that time. Makes you wonder???

ZX, until there is confirmation, right now it would be nothing but speculation. However, if it is true, and as you say it is public record, there will be a newspaper article and/or court records. Links to those can be posted, and that clearly relieves any responsibility to the website. Now, if you guys share emails in private, that is between you guys, and me if you copied me... LMAO....

I'm just as curious as all of you are, but we don't want to cross the line that puts our favorite website in jeopardy.

Look folks, I definately don't agree with cheaters, and even suspect that at times I've been a victim of such. However, right now, we have no confirmation on any of this, and we are getting very close to trying to identify who the accused are.

Remember slander and libel laws make it very tough for anyone to speculate on who the people are, or what tournament they were fishing.

Let's just becareful not to cross the line and make it so the thread gets deleted.

Nothing wrong with sharing information, we all need it, let's just not cross the wrong lines.

I am glad these people got caught and they should be banned from all tourneys but was it legal for them to take there boat. What laws in the law book (not rules in the tourney) did they break. Now dont get me wrong I am not taking up for them.

There are a few fish and wildlife laws as well as state laws. 1 any basket has to be tagged with a name phone number and address 2 a basket can only be attached to your personal property like a dock or house boat 3 game fish cant be kept away from the person who caught them... bluegill, crappie, or shad that is OK to keep in YOUR basket On YOUR property.
theft by deception depending on the value of the purse they are responsible for the entire purse so probably a felony. The rest would depend on the way they reacted when confronted like obstruction or false statements.
