How many 5 pounders did you catch?

I am here at the house recovering from an emergency surgery 3 weeks ago during the absolute best time of the year to do what I Love the most, FISH. Big old cut in the middle of my stomache, weak from laying on my big behind the last 3 weeks and can't even pick up my 2 year old son for I would rip something open again. Saturday, Pre-Cold front, Cloudy, Overcast absolutely perfect conditions for not only a lot of fish but BIGUNS. I would bet money that more 5 pounders were caught today than any other day of the year so far due to perfect conditions plus a weekend day with all the boats on the water. I am stuck here with Jimmy Houston catching 2 pounders on a private lake and "I want to Beat the Hell out of Charlie Moore" catching a 9-1 the same day as the Classic in Florida during his Charlie Moore Classic tournament, which he was the only participant. Love to fish, Hating Life cause I can hear my boat in the garage yelling at me to hook up and head off the KY Lake. Can't even bend over to put my shoes on but wanting to try to climb in the boat so bad I can't stand it. Did go outside and make a few flip and pitches in the yard with the Loomis/Curado combo just to see what if I could still turn the reel with no problems. Still wishin I was FISHIN.

Somebody please help a down and out fellow fisherman with a few stories of todays catch. Hope you caught as many as I wish I was catching. I guess another 4-6 weeks before my old heap hits the water with me in it so I guess my C-Rig better be armed and ready by then.

Tight Lines and hope you caught so many your arm hurts to type.

I would love to tell you some stories but I am sitting at home a lot like you with a 4" cut in my knee from ACL surgery 10 days ago. So the only fishing I get in ESPN this morning.

RE: How many 5 pounders did you catch?

I'm home too with injury. I messed my back up again, well it pretty much stays messed up, some times just worse than others. Also I have severe tendenitis in my elbow. So bad that I can't even carry a coffee cup with out wearing my brace. Well my doctor just injected me with steroids yesterday. I'm not even supposed to be on the computer, but am going crazy watching fishing on TV. Fortunately, I think I may be able to get back out there in another 4 or 5 days... if my wife will let me!!!! LOL

This has been the first year I have been able to fish in the spring. IN my old job, the spring was always my busiest time of year, and I have always had to work the weekends too. I've already fish more this year than in previous years. I can't fish hard for more than four hours, my back gives out, and I have the root nerves going to my legs are pinched, and my legs lose all strength. I use my lean seat, and switch positions, but tournaments are really hard to consider. If I was by myself, it wouldn't be too bad, but with a partner it would not be fair to him that I would slow down so much after a very few hours.

Another thing that is killing me is that I finally can fish in the spring, and I have no job, and gas has gone to over $3 a gallon.... LMAO

Hang in there buddy.... both of you. If I give in and let the surgeons cut on my back, it'll be at least a year before I can fish again.

    Good luck,

    Danny

alright so I will tell you cripples a fish story, between 8 and 12 this morning on the reservior lake caught 27 bcukets, all b/w 2-5 lbs, best day I have had so far this year so you were right elnuts, hate rub it in, but the weather is perfect. The fish would eat just about anything you wanted to throw but I was catching bigger fish on a jig, they would just destroy it, it was awesome. Kind of a crowd though this morning, had one guy following me around with a spin pole and a rooster tail tryin to catch bass, needless to say he was in utterly amazed. Had one four+ hang himself from a dock right as another boat passes by, he was talkin to his buddy, "there is no way that fish stays on", he hung himself over the dock and only his tail was in the water, he was raising ten kinds of h#ll, i jumped on the dock and got him. Thank you P-line, so yea elnuts the fish were biting, sorry to hear your laid up.

I caught a 7+ Carp today on redworms and an ultralite. It was an epic battle, But alas like most things I do it was completley pointless. Get well buddy.

RE: How many 5 pounders did you catch?

    None 8^)

Just capped 6 straight weekends to KY/Barkley this weekend.

Biggest this weekend was 6.7 on topwater....the fish are on the beds right now. Fronts this weekend pushed them off and on, but we caught several with bloody tails and lots of bucks.

I still feel like we kind of struggled this weekend.....not the usual large numbers of quality fish. Lots of dinks. Caught several fish C-rigging the edge of the grass on KY and everything came shallow at Barkley. C-rig was not getting us any love in Barkley South. We caught mostly bucks defending and a few ladies ready to drop the load.

I'm home today....just watched an In-Fisherman show on catching smallies on soft plastic alternatives to live bait....8^) It always makes me laugh when guys talk about fish in terms of inches......uh yeah.... we caught a couple 19 inchers...Hi....I'm Doug Stange w/berkley....uh I mean....In-Fisherman 8^) Yeah....I'm going natural too....just not this weekend 8^)

El~ you get well soon so we can wet a line my man! Just say no to the breads man....no inbreads or hybrids....they'll ruin you....tear up your equipment....you'll be out there at all hours of the night and day away from your family chasing those crazy fish. They fight as hard as many saltwater fish and even a few smallies....I did say a few 8^)

    Bassman...

Hope to be ready to wet a line together real soon. My guess is you are getting ready for your Canada trip in a couple of weeks to catch 100's of smallies a day. Wish I could go but no way. I did manage to get out Friday and Saturday to the driveway and flip and pitch a bit just to "Dry" a line. If there was a 5 pounder laying next to my mailbox or anywhere near the landscaping around my house she was as good as caught. Can barely flip and pitch but at least I had some sort of fishing aparatus in my grasp. Tried a couple of overhand cast but too much pain in my stomache. Real sad part is that I think I have already busted my inside apart on my left side again. Planning on visiting the doc again if pain does not go away again soon. Hating life because I can't go fishing but on the bright side, I have studied the heck out of the past performances for all Derby contenders and come this Saturday, I see many $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in my future. If the one particular LONGSHOT that I LOVE hits, bring on the tax forms for me to autograph at the window.

    RE: Bassman...

Man you need to come up for the Oaks or the week after all the madness of Derby! I love to go to Churchill and play the horses. It's a good time. I just need to get some jockey club tickets for us and we'll be set.

Hope you feel better soon bro! We got a couple weeks until PRESPAWN....oh yeah....it's on!
