Not sure that the red mouth means, other than maybe being caught.. LOL

I figure the large females that are really kind of slim, not all fat and pudged out like they are full of eggs.... like they were 3 weeks or so ago, are probably post spawn. If they are pudged out with eggs, I figure they are pre-spawn. For the buck bass, they are always red-tailed, even bleeding sometimes, from fanning the bed. One of the fish we caught this past trip had clear signs that its tail was almost completely healed, as there was just a hint of red, yet the fish was caught out on a point, so it is unlikely it was fanning a bed on the point, since the bay has great spawning habitat.

I have no idea how to tell a female from a male, but females tend to be bigger, so I refer to all big 'uns as female.

Really, the area we were fishing, I feel the major majority.... I mean like 90% or better, were finished. I could easily be wrong though. As I said, the water temps were actually cooler now than they were a few weeks ago. Still the temps are in the upper 60's.

I'd love to hear from Dave Stewart on this. He is on the lake daily and I would almost guarantee you he knows what stage they are in.
