I've been fishing Barren on and off for 20 years due to its close proximity. And for me, this has been the worst bite I have ever seen. I don't know if it has to do with the fish kill that occurred, the crazy weather, or maybe I'm in a slump. But I do know that I now go to Nolin, a lake which I know very little about, and I catch fish. I've done very well at Nolin this year by just cruisin' until I see a spot that looks good and fishin it. Personally, I doubt I'll bother with Barren again this year. Like I said though, it could be just me because I haven't kept up with the weigh-ins on Barren, just going on personal experience.
The fishin.com get together was there on Saturday last weekend. Fishing was tough, though many slot fish were weighed.
I agree with the statements that fishing is tough. I personally don't like that lake.
However, Rodney, Crazyfishinut, says that is the best lake in the world, and even promised to pay me $20 to take him out and let him show me he could catch a keeper in 20 minutes... right Rodney? LMAO
Oooops, I'm sorry I got that wrong... it was a bet. He bet me he could catch a keeper in 20 minutes... I of course did not accept the bet. He fishes that lake all the time, lives very close, and says he catches many, many keepers... and I'm sure he does. I have no doubt. I have met Rodney and have absolutely no reason not to trust him. I am guessing that I have so much trouble because the lake is so different from Barkley lake, and even KY lake.... which I also have trouble with when the fish go deep.
Good luck with your trip... hope you catch some, and seek info. from Rodney. I know he will share. He is really a good guy, and I just like ragging him some, as I did above. He is a good guy.

I am tracking a possible State Record White Bass caught this week at Barren. Fish and Wildlife is set to take a look at the fish and will let me know if it is a Hybrid or not. It weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces and would beat ONE of the oldest state records of 5 Pounds.

LAST EDITED ON May-18-06 AT 09:11PM (EST)[p]fished in a small tournament there friday the 12th. It was extremly windy. Caught 4 keepers 1 slot and about 25 short fish. Not to bad since it was my first time on the lake. Caught most off stumps on rocky banks using small soft plastics texas rigged. Tubes were producing also. Was lucky enough to win the tournament with 10.5 lbs. Had a great time but I'm used to fishing Taylorsville.
I fished last Tuesday evening tourny and had 8lb plus in 3 fish. I won big bass with a 5lb. Fishing was great! 10 lbs took total weight.
