RE: Police ticketing fishermen in Captains Quarters

Since Dave got out the rule book let`s talk about another rule in the KDFW 2006 rule book that states that you are responsible for the wake of your boat and the damage it causes. So when we hit a 6 ft or bigger roller on the lake we need to get their name and send them a bill for the damage it does to or boat, back, and most importantly to the lake. The big boats with huge wakes our destroying the lake. Go through the cannal next weekend after 10:30 am on Ky and whatch as all the big house boats slow down for the fisherman inn their fishing. OH back to reality they don`t slow down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ever tax payer has a right to the lake but these big wakes are totally destroying the lake!!!!!!!! I would like to see law enforment work both ways. Let`s give some of the drunks(aka big party boats) tickets when they wash you up on the bank.

    Hi Brian
You certainly won't get any arguement from me on this point. Most of those big boats, especially the big yachts just plow right on thru that canal without any reguard for the other folks going thru there. It should be designated a "narrow waterway" area. If anyone wants the thrill of a lifetime they should go thru the canal at about 2:00 on the Saturday of the 4th of July weekend...you will get the ride of your life and a chance to test your survivability skills for sure.

Rodney---I totally agree with that one!!!!! CQ has plenty of water that is fishable without actually touching or getting anywhere near a boat.

RE: Police ticketing fishermen in Captains Quarters

i for one don't agree with anyone being ticketed for this reason.

we fisherman also pay taxes. taxes and registeration fees not only for our boat but also for our truck that pulled it their.

we buy fishing license, pay launch fees.

my opinon is this as long as your in a boat on the water than all excessable should be fishable.

these marina owners may own the docks and or the land that it is attachted to BUT THEY DO NOT OWN THE WATER AROUND IT.

    PAIN AND SIMPLE.

also i don't understand how an OFF DUTY OFFICER can be allowed to write tickets anyway let alone be WORTH THE PAPPER ITS WROTE ON.

ALMOST SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE BUYING THE COPS.

Haven't we beat this dead horse enough??

come on guys... give it a break will you!!!

The law says the corp can lease the area to the marinas, and they can restrict the fishing within the 150 foot distance.

Hey, I've had my moored boat dented, and the seats torn by "us" anglers who think we have to catch the fish at the dock area.

We've got one angler who admits he does things just to peeve off the dock and marina owners.

Maybe you are a perfect caster, but even in the Ultimate Match fishing show, I think it was Rick Clunn that had his spinnerbait stuck in a moored boat's lines. I'd bet those pros can cast a lot better than 99.9% of us on this board can cast, and if they still get tangled.... well surely you get the point.

We've had this discussion over and over... there is absolutely nothing new being added. It's the same old stuff being said. You want to change the law, support someone for office that has your same feelings... maybe Jim D is your man... I don't know.

Either way, it would be nice for the moderators to lock this thread since nothing new is being added.

Yes I can lock it myself, but would not want to be accused of misusing my privleges.

    NO We haven't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Danny,
Since I know this area very well, I have to say it's a little different. It's not about just fishing the docks and moored boats. Yes, there is fish around them---probably alot of them. But there is just as many in the rest of the marina. The problem is, there is plenty of water to fish from the mouth of the marina just off of Harrods Creek to all the rip-rap around the outer perimeter of this marina. The whole thing should not be off limits----maybe the boat area. I understand that, but the rest of it shouldn't be.
The other problem is this----in the Louisville area on the Ohio River, there is getting to be less and less places to fish. I've seen it a time or two when the current was so bad, even the creeks were a wash out and the only calm water you could fish was the marina's. So, then what do you do???
CQ could and maybe they have already set a precedent(sp) for all of the other marina's. Sure wish it was different, but it's not. There are quite a few marina's here in this area and if they shut them all down, we may be forced to fish other bodies of water. I sure wish I had KY/Barkley in my back yard, but unfortunately all I have is Ohio River and T-ville.
I realize this isn't adding anything new, but hopefully the right people will continue to read this and can maybe do something about it. Locking this thread will only be as bad as the dock owners saying we can't fish in the marina's.

    RE: NO We haven't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Mark,

For the record, I don't have Barkley or Ky lake in my back yard either.

About the only thing I could claim to having in my back yard would be either the Green River... the river itself.. not the lake, or maybe the WMAs that are being sold.

My point is, the posts are the same. There are not any new things being added, only ranting and raving.

Now if we as fishermen want to do something about this, let's as a group quit the whinning and crying here, and stand together for change. Of course that will take a lot of effort, and few have shown the intestinal fortitude to do that.

I see that Jim D is running for one of the wildlife commissioners... I think that was the title.. that is a first step.

If we are going to enact change, we must take steps like that, and make sure he gets the appointment.

However, for any of us to get on here ranting and raving, well it only serves as a possible tool to weaken our position.

Maybe the best thing for me is to just quit reading the posts about this. Maybe because I've had too many bad experiences related to fishermen, even though I too am a fisherman. Unfortunately, it only takes a few bad apples to ruin them all, or at least give them all a bad name and rep.

    RE: NO We haven't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Danny in that this same thread comes along every few months. Those that get all up in arms about the situation only complain...they never do anything to try to change it....they just want to complain and hope someone else will do the work required to get the situation changed.

Now, I am not going to lock the thread...if complaining here about this makes you feel better..go for it (as long as you obey the rules)...if you think your complaining here is going to change it...you have another think coming.

I will say that I am getting tired of the remarks concerning the administration of this board. It is a violation of the board rules to post complaints here on the board about the administration of this site...if you read the rules you will find the proper way to address your complaints. Most of the deletions I have made recently did not concern the topic at hand...they were deleted because someone could not stick to the topic..they had to complain about the administration of the board in their post...take heed of this if you want your posts to remain on the board.

    Rodney....

I agree... you have to take a stand to change things.

So, what is it that you have done, besides as you said previously, caused a stink just by trying to make a marina owner mad?

Have you approached your local legislator? Have you contacted the KDFW? Have you started a petition? Have you, yourself, run for an office on the platform that you can help make the changes you complain about?

I'm just saying, that coming on here and complaining, and saying the same thing, over and over and over does no good. I doubt seriously any of the people who can make a difference even read this board.

I personally won't fish marinas. I won't fish docks that have a boat moored, if there is anyway my lure may hit the boat.... as I have said, I had too much damage to my boat that I used to keep moored at Lake Malone, and then later at Lake Barkley.

I whole heartedly support your right to voice your opinion. I support your right to lead a fight for change. What I comment negatively on is the same people saying the same thing every single time this issue comes up, and none of them being willing to be part of the solution.

It is easy to point out wrongs, it is easy to observe injustices, it is easy to complain, but the courage you talk about, to actually lead change, takes a lot more than what is going on here on the board. If you are running for an office, as Jim D. posted he is, let us know. Let the fishermen who do want to fish marinas support you in your fight for the justice. Then when you are in the right position, lead your fight to overturn the signed contracts already in place, the precedents set in courts. Just do it in the right places.

Good luck Rodney... you seem to voice a lot of good ideas, and you seem to have a lot of energy... I look forward to seeing your positive results.

    Danny
