    Trophy Stripers

4 Stipers over 40 pounds reported this week on the Cumberland River out of Burkesville. The next 2 weeks the fish will be making their spawning run up the river. The best fishing of the year is coming so if you love stripers and want one for the wall now is the time to run to the river.

Curiosity is getting the better of me. I fish stripers almost every weekend in the lake at night and mornings lures and bait. how would one go about fishing for them in the river i have been there many time but only toi trout fish. this sounds like more fun.

Al Linder of In-Fisherman did a show a few years back....he pulled live bait with planer boards and little or no weights ..... with the trolling motor ..... and sat on the front of the boat and threw crankbaits at the same time .... he had a very good day catching fish using both methods. Think he was fishing with Randal Gibson.

Large soft-plastic jerkbaits, such as 10" Slug-gos, and the monster swim baits work for casting as well. If using jerkbaits, keep the bait moving as erratic as possible. Do not stop the bait if a fish is following...it will just turn and swim away. This is very hard to do when a 30 #'er rolls on the bait!! Swim baits seem to work better with a steady retreive. If pulling boards, go in the same direction as the current and go just fast enough to maintain steerage of your boat. Run your outside board as close as you can to the shoreline cover. This is also where you want to throw your artificial lures. The fish sit in the snags for the current break. Scan the shallow water as you fish as you may see the fish schooling or sitting. This is sight fishing in the extreme. Be sure to lead the fish with your cast...they spook easy when shallow. Good luck and hold on tight!
