I have used the DT 4,6 and 10 since they came out and not had a problem with any of them They are probably my most used crankbait. I also started using the Flat DT series this spring and have not had any problems with those either.

My buddy and I was fishing Ky last spring and I put on a DT4 Firetiger fresh out of the pack and began to kill them one cast after another for about an hour or so. After catching several fish I reeled in after a cast with grass on it and slapped the water and to my suprise the bill came apart still tied to my line but he body was floating away. I netted the bait and was not happy for I only had bought 1 of that kind. I tied on every other crank in my box that morning and did not get another bite. I emailed Rapala due to them not having a customer service number on their website at that time ( I don't know if they do now or not). Telling them what a great bait they came out with and how it caught fish but it would be better if it did not come apart. They emailed me back with a phone number so I called, long story short, I sent back the DT4 Firetiger crank and got back a box full which contained 6 of the exact DT4 Firetiger that I sent plus 6 other DT4 in various colors, 6-DT6, 6-DT10 and 6-DT16 all in various colors. Not a bad deal, me send them 1 crankbait and they send me 30 crankbaits in return. I did tell them if they did not stand by their product that I had a big mouth and could type all day on fishing websites about them not honoring their defective product. Maybe I got lucky, Maybe this is standard procedure, either way I got plenty in my box now and LOVE THEM because they do catch fish. My first choice when cranking is the DT series.

Morale of the story, QUIT slapping baits on top of water. That's one of my pet peeves in my boat, I can't stand it when somebody slaps the water with a bait all day. You would be amazed how many fish you are scaring off.
Like Mr Hall said you should not ever slap a balsa crankbait on the water to clean it 9 out of 10 will break and it gets worse in cooler water.

How deep do these baits run i have never thrown one?
I was wondering if anyone was going to pick up on the fact that slapping a crankbait on the water is begging for a broken bait...and I definitely agree with mhall....it is not a "fish caller"
My problem certainly isn't from slapping the dt's on the water, maybe from bumping stumps and rocks during the retrieve. Just seems to me they have weak bills.
